This week-long walking trip offers a great opportunity to explore possibly the Mediterranean's best kept secret: North Cyprus. Based in the picturesque coastal town of Kyrenia, you will walk on deserted forest tracks passing beautiful wild flowers and enjoy stunning mountain views and dramatic coastal scenery. You will learn how the island's history has been shaped by exploring the dramatic ruins of St. Hilarion's Castle and the 14th Century Crusader abbey of Bellapais.

Itinerary
Kyrenia. Your hotel is situated about 20 minutes' walk from the beautiful harbour and castle area, boasting a wide selection of bars and restaurants. Day 2 Bellapais Abbey Drive to the small village of Bellapais to see the legendary 14th Century Crusader abbey and the famous `Tree of Idleness'. Leaving the abbey you'll pass by the village's bougainvillaea-strewn houses.
Essentials
at Kyrenia's small coves and beaches, visit the walled city of Nicosia or the ruined city of Salamis (additional charge). Day 6 Buffavento Dramatically located on a rocky outcrop, Buffavento is the highest Crusader castle on the island. After ascending the 700 steps to this strategic fortress, there is time to discover its imposing ruins. Later, you'll walk on the southern flank of the Besparmak Range. Day 7 Sourp Magar Monastery The final walk starts in a forest where you'll be surrounded by an abundance of wild flowers. You'll walk to Sourp Magar, an abandoned monastery dating from the 12th Century before taking a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean. Day 8 Transfer to Larnaca and fly home.

Day 3/4 St. Hilarion's Castle
Impressive St. Hilarion's Castle overlooks Kyrenia from a dramatic hilltop affording spectacular coastal views. You'll have time to explore before walking predominantly downhill to the flower-filled village of Karaman. On the walks you may also visit the pretty little Antiphonis Church.
Moderate walking on scenic mountain tracks that are occasionally steep and uneven. A reasonable level of fitness is required and preferably hill walking experience. A walk (average length 16km) is planned on most days though it's possible to opt out if you wish.
