You climb along ash to the breathtaking rim which affords amazing views of the inner crater. At the site the volcano and lava museum provides a fascinating insight into the region. Day 3 Stromboli Transfer to Milazzo where you will board a hydrofoil to the island of Stromboli. You will have free time to discover this charming island, perhaps taking a boat trip (additional charge). In the evening, walk up to the summit of the volcano with a vulcanologist to witness spectacular eruptions that are best viewed at dusk. Mt Etna region. nearby island of Panarea, where you can explore its lively villages and wonderful beaches. This car-free island is one of Sicily's hidden gems. Day 5/6 Taormina Visit the Gole dell'Alcantara and experience its dramatic beauty as you wade through the gorge. Then on to Taormina, famed for its Greco-Roman architecture, and view the town from the Teatro Greco. Day 7 Siracusa Once described as the most beautiful city of all, Siracusa was once a Greek city state. Now the site is home to beautiful Greek and Roman architecture and you can spend the day taking in the sights. Day 8 Transfer to Catania and fly home. Essentials Day 4 Panarea Travel by hydrofoil to the A relaxed cultural trip with some walking. A reasonable level of fitness is required for the walks. You may get wet walking in Alcantara Gorge, and the climb to the summit of Stromboli is optional.
