Day 1 Overnight flight to Delhi. Day 2 After arriving in Delhi, take a city Day 8/9 Varanasi Lining the banks of the Ganges, Varanasi is India's sacred heart attracting many Hindu pilgrims. Wander through the Old City, take part in a candle-lit flower ceremony and boat down the river at sunrise. Day 10 Lumbini Travel to the birthplace of Buddha, the beautiful town of Lumbini on the Nepalese border. Day 11-13 Chitwan National Park See elephants and possibly rhinos, monkeys, deer and crocodiles too. Day 14/15 Kathmandu Rice terraces, deep gorges, rivers and the snow-capped Himalayan peaks pave the way to Kathmandu. Visit the `Monkey Temple', see the Pashupatinath pyres and join the pilgrims at Bodhnath Stupa. Day 16 Fly home.

This busy trip is suitable for anyone in reasonable health. To maximise your experience, patience and a sense of humour are essential. Be prepared for some long journeys on bumpy roads. Day 4-6 Orchha Temple spires and domes rise from the jungle in the crumbling Orchha palace complex. Enjoy a cooking demonstration with a local family and visit a paper-making community project. Day 7 River Ganges Boat Trip Sail down India's sacred Ganges and camp overnight on the riverbank.
