Starting in lively Marrakech, you have free time to explore the old city and wander the labyrinth of colourful and lively bazaars. Escape from the hustle and bustle to the High Atlas Mountains and experience the challenge of climbing Mt. Toubkal - North Africa's highest peak (4,167m). Day 2 Imlil-Nelter Departing Marrakech you head for the village of Imlil with the impressive snow-covered peaks of the High Atlas looming in front of you. From Imlil you embark on the first day of your ascent of Mt. Toubkal. From Aremd the trail leads up the floodplain of the Ait Mizane Valley before it zigzags up the mountainside. Pass Sidi Chamarouch, a place of pilgrimage en-route to the Toubkal Base Camp at Neltner (3,207m). Day 3 Summit Mt. Toubkal From Neltner, set off walking to summit Jebel Toubkal (4,167m), North Africa's highest peak. From the summit you'll admire superb views of the entire Atlas range with views over the Sahara Desert. Essentials Day 4 Nelter-Marrakech Descend back down to Imlil and drive across the plains to Marrakech. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore this cosmopolitan and chaotic city. Sample the delights of Marrakech with a visit to the souks and bazaars. Day 5 Fly home. Walks are moderate to demanding. The ascent of Mt. Toubkal is strenuous and should only be attempted by experienced mountain walkers but you can opt out. You need to be reasonably fit to get the most out of the trip with sturdy hiking boots.
