Trek pristine jungle trails in Bako National Park looking for Probiscus Monkeys and learn about the indigenous Iban culture by spending an evening in the longhouses. Explore dramatic Mulu National Park, climb the Pinnacles Trail and visit caves housing Asia's longest underground river. Walk part of the 'Headhunters' Trail, ride a traditional longtail boat and visit Sabah to snorkel, swim or simply relax on the beach. Itinerary Day 1/2 Overnight flight to Kuching. Day 3 Bako NP Enjoy walks through market in the evening, to sample the local delicacies. Day 7-9 Mulu NP Spend two full days exploring one of the most dramatic parks in Asia. Climb to the summit of the Pinnacles Trail and visit Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, which contains Asia's longest underground river. Day 10 Limbang Walk part of the ominously named Headhunters' Trail, historically used by warring parties. Jump into a traditional longtail boat and be whisked downriver to Limbang. Day 11 Kota Kinabalu Boarding a ferry, make tracks to the capital of Sabah via Labuan Island. Staying near the beach provides the perfect base from which to snorkel, swim or simply relax. Day 12 Fly home. Essentials Be prepared for some serious physical activity. You will need to have a good level of fitness as most of the activities on this trip will be challenging. Enjoy watching orang-utans feeding in the afternoon, when you visit Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Day 5 Sarakie Be welcomed by the Iban people and spend an evening learning about their amazing history and culture. Share stories, get an insight into their day-to-day life and hear about their fascinating headhunting history. Day 6 Sibu Drive to Sibu where you can freshen up and relax. Insider's view This trip exposed me to the many different aspects of the country, from the indigenous people to the amazing dense forests and incredible national parks. I was surprised by the warm welcome I received from the local people and enjoyed the opportunity to stay on a longhouse with them. Riding the longtail boat was a personal highlight.
