This trip is designed to give you the best of the country in a short space of time. Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake and birthplace of the Inca Empire, remains home to the Uros people and their traditional way of life on the floating reed islands. Cusco and the Sacred Valley contain fabulous Inca ruins which lead to the magnificence of Machu Picchu. Overall, the essence of Peru in less than two weeks.
Trip Extensions Amazon and Galapagos
Extension Reference: PBA/PBG If you wish to extend your holiday, there are two possibilities: choose between a visit to the Amazon for a jungle experience, or to the Galapagos Islands for some incredible wildlife. Please see page 32 for details.
Itinerary
Day 1 Fly to Lima. Day 2 Puno You fly from Lima to the quaint lakeside town of Puno. Your time here is free to explore and acclimatise to the altitude. Day 3 Lake Titicaca On the lake you will see traditional cultures and impressive reed islands. Day 4 Puno to Cusco Crossing the altiplano to Cusco, you pass typical Andean villages as you head to the centre of the Inca civilisation. Day 5 Sacsayhuaman Starting with a city tour of Cusco, you will see grand colonial buildings in the Plaza de Armas alongside the ruins of magnificent Inca walls at Sacsayhuaman, thought to have once been a temple to the sun. Day 6 Sacred Valley In the Sacred Valley you'll spend time exploring a profusion of Inca sites. Wander around the famous market town of Pisac, and see some of the most impressive Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo. Day 7/8 Machu Picchu You travel by train to the celebrated ruins of the Inca stronghold of Machu Picchu. You have two days to go into the site and delve into the mystical history of the Inca Empire. Day 9-11 Fly to London via Lima.
