It offers an incredible mix of fantastic mountain views, different ecosystems and fascinating ruins. Having spent a couple of days in Cusco, you'll head out onto the trail, soon to catch your first breathtaking view of the lost city of Machu Picchu. Trip Extensions Titicaca and Galapagos Extension Reference: PIT Why not extend your holiday with a visit to Lake Titicaca to see the amazing reed islands of the Uros people. Day 2/3 Cusco Fly to Cusco; a mix of organised sightseeing and free time allows you to explore the city and Inca ruins, and to enjoy the mountain biking and hiking in the Sacred Valley. Day 4 Ollantaytambo Visit the ruins of the ancient Inca fortress at Ollantaytambo, before making your way to the start of the Inca Trail. Day 5-7 Inca Trail The trek along old Inca pathways is a memorable experience. Filled with ruins and sweeping mountain views this is undoubtedly the highlight of any visit to Peru. Day 8 Machu Picchu From your first views at the Sun Gate to the time you spend wandering the ruins themselves, the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is a breathtaking sight. After your visit to the ruins you return to Cusco to relax before your journey home. Day 9-11 Overnight flight to London via Lima. Factfile Essentials This is an active trip; the 4-day Inca Trail Trek is graded moderate to demanding and is porter-assisted. You may walk up to 7 hours a day, so some fitness training before the trip is beneficial.
