Itinerary
Day 1/2 Fly to Georgetown. Day 3 Georgetown Discover the wonders of this fine city, from the colonial architecture to the colourful markets, beautiful botanical gardens and the music of steel pans. Day 4 Kaieteur Falls Fly to these powerful and impressive falls to feel the water plunge down a sheer drop of 226m (optional). Day 5 Santa/Arrowpoint Travelling up river by canoe, visit the Amerindian community of Santa, and continue through a wildly changing and varied ecosystem. Day 6/7 Karanambu Fly to Karanambu where you'll help out with the rehabilitation of giant river otters that takes place on the ranch.
Day 8/9 Into the savannah Search for giant anteaters before travelling to Annai, visiting a local school en route. There's the option to ride with vaqueros (cowboys) or hike in the Pakaraima foothills. Day 10/11 Surama/Burro Burro River Visit an Amerindian community, climb Surama Mountain for stunning views and paddle on the Burro Burro River looking for wildlife. Day 12-14 Iwokrama Into the Iwokrama Forest you'll hopefully be able to spot the elusive jaguar. As well as a canopy walkway you'll also spend time at the field station taking guided nature walks. Day 15 Georgetown After the morning exploring the forest you fly back to Georgetown and enjoy one final day in the city Day 16/17 Fly to London.

Revenue provided by staying with the indigenous Surama enables them to be employed at home, rather than having to travel elsewhere to find work mining or cutting timber.

During your visit to Guyana you will have an abundance of experiences that will allow you to get closer to the heart of this vibrant country. From visiting the Amerindian population at Santa and learning about traditional crafts to staying in locally run eco-lodges you can really begin to understand the country. As part of your trip you stay at Karanambu Ranch where you can help with the rehabilitation of giant river otters. You can get involved with the daily feeding and care for the otters as well as perhaps taking the opportunity to swim with them in the Rupununi River.
