After seeing the Inca and colonial sites, you explore the Sacred Valley on foot and by bike. This is ideal and peaks along the way, ends at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

Itinerary
Day 1 Fly to Lima. Day 2 Puno Fly to Juliaca, drive to the lakeside town of Puno via the preColombian Sillustani ruins. Day 3 Lake Titicaca Visit the fascinating floating reed islands that dot this beautiful lake. Day 4 Puno/Cusco Leave the sacred lake behind and drive across the altiplano to the Inca capital of Cusco. Day 5 Cusco A city tour takes in the highlights of this great city, with its mix of colonial and Inca history. Day 6-8 Sacred Valley You'll visit the famous Pisac ruins and market, hike to the farms of Chinchero and mountain bike to the Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo. Day 9-12 Inca Trail The classic trek to Machu Picchu. This porter-assisted hike along ancient Inca pathways is an undoubted highlight of Peru. You trek past small ruins along the way to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, and your first spectacular views of the awe-inspiring citadel itself. Day 13 Machu Pichu Today you will explore the fortress complex, but the opportunity for more action presents itself in the climb of Huayna Picchu behind the ruined city. Return by train to Cusco. Day 14-16 Fly to London via Lima.

Essentials An active trip; the 4-day Inca Trail trek at altitude is graded moderate to demanding; porterassisted. You may walk up to 7 hours a day, so some fitness training before the trip is beneficial.
