Ultimate Churchill 8 days London to London Day 1. Depart London Depart London for Winnipeg. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Hotel Fort Garry. Days 2 & 3. Churchill [B, L, D] This morning you fly to Churchill and have a brief presentation on Polar Bears before heading to the tundra for an evening among the bears. On Day 3 you board a tundra buggy and travel to the tundra to view the bears and other wildlife. (See our Classic Polar Bear itinerary.) Day 4. Helicopter to Bear Dens [B, L, D] Today, weather permitting, you fly by helicopter over the tundra to the female bears denning area. You may even have the remarkable opportunity to crawl inside an unoccupied Polar Bear den! In the afternoon you may enjoy a half day dogsledding excursion. Day 5. Churchill [B, L, D] Today you spend time with native northern people, visiting the Eskimo Museum and enjoying fascinating presentations. You even learn how to build an igloo! In the evening, weather permitting, you visit the Aurora Dome to view the Northern Lights (hopefully!). Day 6. Churchill to Winnipeg [B, L or D] After some free time you return to Winnipeg for a final night at the Hotel Fort Gary. Day 7 & 8. Homeward [B] Transfer to the airport for your flight home, arriving on day 8. Cost per person: Oct Nov £4,095 £3,995 Blue Whale Study Week 9 days London to London Day 1. Depart London Depart London for Baie Comeau, flying via Montreal. On arrival you will be transferred to your comfortable shared accommodation in Forestville, on the estuary of the St Lawrence River, where you will be based for seven nights. Here you join your fellow participants, which will be limited to a maximum of six. Days 2 to 7. Forestville [B, L, D] Your days will be spent observing and contributing to the study of Blue Whales which can be found in high concentrations in the estuary, and just off the coast of Sept-Iles, between August and September. From seven metre rigid-hulled inflatable boats you will have the chance to join biologists at sea, participating in field research and assisting in the collection of data, often spending six to ten hours on the water. Whale Study Week 8 days London to London Day 1. Depart London Depart London for St. Johns, Newfoundland. You will be met on arrival and transferred to the Quality Hotel where you spend the next six nights. Days 2 to 5. [B] Cruise the seas, on the lookout for Humpback, Minke, and Fin Whales, along with many dolphins. You will have the opportunity to be involved with an ongoing whale research project, taking part in fluke photography, individual whale recognition, behavioural observations, feeding ecology and audio-work by using hydrophones. You travel aboard coast guard certified vessels, which permit you to visit extremely rich and diverse marine parks. You will also spend a day whale-watching from land, whilst also being on the lookout for Caribou and seals. Day 6. [B] Researchers on board will provide information about the ecology of the whales and also how to identify individual whales by their characteristic markings. Although much of your time is spent specialising in Blue Whale research, Harbour Porpoises, Atlantic White-sided, and White-beaked Dolphins, Harp, and Grey Seals may also be seen, providing you with a most unique wildlife experience. Days 8 & 9. Homeward [B (Day 9 only)] Return to Baie Comeau for your homeward flight, via Montreal. Tens of thousands of other seabirds with their chicks add to the day, as does some of the worlds best land-based whale-watching. Days 7 & 8. Homeward [B (Day 7 only)] After breakfast you will have the opportunity to spend a few final hours out in the boat before being transferred back to St. Johns to meet your homeward flight.
