Myrtos Beach
Kefalonia
Kefalonia is a haven for beach lovers with its sand and shingle coves, sheltered bays and inlets. It is the largest of the Ionian islands, and offers a stunning contrast of fragrant pine forests, beautiful beaches and mountainous backdrops. The south east of the island is the home of Mt Aenos which towers majestically over beautiful beaches and turquoise seas. Benefiting from its Mediterranean climate, Kefalonia enjoys mild and rainy winters and hot summers which has allowed it to remain green and fertile with an abundance of vineyards producing some of the best wines in Greece. Explorers will enjoy the Drogarati caves and underground lake at Melissani, while the picturesque fishing village of Fiskardo to the north of the island is well worth a visit as the only town to have survived the 1953 earthquake.
Skala
Skala, in the south of the island, is surrounded by pine trees. This quiet, charming and purpose-built resort enjoys stunning views across the Ionian Sea to the island of Zante. Skala is a beach lovers paradise and it boasts a variety of bars and restaurants. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs
Sami
Towards the north east of the island this is a truly tranquil part of Kefalonia. This quiet resort is set in lush green countryside and offers easy access to some superb beaches and unspoilt countryside. After dark, the emphasis is placed on enjoying the relaxed local tavernas and getting into the spirit of the real Greece. And if you want a quick preview see the movie Captain Corellis Mandolin that was filmed here. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs
Fiskardo
Known as the Saint Tropez of Kefalonia, Fiskardo is a sophisticated, relaxing resort tucked away amongst olive groves and pine trees. Fiskardo has retained a truly traditional feel with pastel coloured Venetian buildings overlooking local fishermen making their way in with their fresh, daily catch. Magnificent yachts and caiques that fill the beautiful harbour along with the sandy coves dotted around the coastline, that are home to the only surviving monk seals in Greece, only add to the authentic Greek charm that Fiskardo has in abundance. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs
Svoronata & Avithos
With a relaxing, unhurried atmosphere the peaceful village of Svoronata lies tucked away amongst olive groves and fields full of wild flowers. Boasting three beautiful gently shelving golden beaches, including Avithos (1.2km away) and a small selection of tavernas, the area is particularly suited to those looking for a quiet holiday with plenty of traditional Greek style.
