The Algarve
Unwind and relax on Portugals southern coast where a range of resorts offer everything from sandy beaches, lively bars and marinas lined with yachts, to peaceful cobbled streets, gypsy markets and seafood restaurants. The Algarve is famous for the excellent golf courses that line the coast, and there are plenty of watersports for those that want to exercise their sea legs. And, when it comes to sights theres plenty to see including the flame-red castle at Silves and the local fiestas that just run into the night.
Praia da Rocha
If your idea of a great summer holiday involves watersports, wide golden sands and evening entertainment that ranges from pavement cafés and restaurants on the esplanade to numerous lively bars, Praia da Rocha is your kind of place. The resorts beautiful beach is backed by low cliffs and is dotted with pillars of rock, hence the name Praia da Rocha (Beach of the rock). Transfer from airport: Approx 2hrs.
Albufeira
Sandy beaches, modern amenities and diverse nightlife have made Albufeira one of the most popular resorts on the coast whether you are visiting on your own, with friends and family or as a couple. You can wander through the cobbled alleys and Moorish arches of the old town and relax on Fisherman's Beach. The old town area is complemented with a fine choice of bars, restaurants and shops. Nearby the old town you will find the famous Strip running from the top of Montechoro hill down to the beautiful Praia da Oura (golden beach). The Strip is lined with many lively bars and a huge choice of restaurants, plus shops and handicraft stalls, which are open throughout the evening in the summer. Transfer from airport: approx 1hr.
Alvor
True to its fishing village origins, Alvor is an ideal place for a relaxing summer break by the sea. It's a pretty resort where you can wander along cobbled streets and relax in a harbour area with smart waterfront cafés and seafood restaurants. Whether you prefer long golden stretches of sand, or secluded coves with shallow waters there will be a stretch of breathtaking coastline to suit you. The resorts nightlife consists of bars with karaoke or live music, and a choice of restaurants which serve everything from British-style food to local specialities. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs.
Vilamoura
Unlike other resorts that have developed from fishing villages, sophisticated Vilamoura is purposebuilt with modern amenities aplenty. The centrepiece is a marina packed with luxury yachts which creates a cosmopolitan ambience. The golden beach is the place to relax and enjoy watersports, whilst evenings are spent walking around the marina before choosing one of the many restaurants. Transfer from airport: approx 35mins.
Falesia
This quaint town, with a traditional Portuguese lifestyle has just a scattering of restaurants, cafes and bars. With the coastline offering one of the longest golden sand beaches in Portugal, its an ideal place for soaking up the sun, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. For a more livelier night out, Albufeira, is just a short distance away. Transfer time from airport: approx 1hr.
