Corfu Corfu is one of the most popular Greek islands with British tourists, and its easy to see why. Its hundred miles of coastline and succession of beaches seem to absorb the host of visitors, leaving sleepy villages and country lanes untouched. Hillsides covered with ancient olive groves, pine forests and tall cypress trees sweep down to sand and shingle beaches, while along winding roads black-clad women still ride side-saddle on laden donkeys. In contrast, resorts which have sprung up around the coast cater for the liveliest of fun-lovers. Watersports are a speciality and there are some excellent schools with instructors who speak good English. But perhaps the best thing about Corfu is that everything is laid on for the British holidaymaker, yet in an atmosphere and setting that is totally Greek. Sidari Once a sleepy village with just a cluster of houses Sidari has now become one of Corfus largest and vibrant resorts, with excellent amenities for the holidaymaker. Wind-carved sandstone cliffs provide a fantastic backdrop to the long, sandy gently-shelving beach in this bustling resort. Days and early evenings are generally laid back but the nights can get quite lively. There is a great choice of restaurants, bars and discos. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs. Roda A peaceful beach resort situated on the north coast. The sand, shingle and pebble beach is long and narrow, continuing along the coast to nearby Acharavi. Watersports can be found here. The sea may occasionally be rough on windy days when care should be taken when swimming. There is a good choice of bars and tavernas and there are regular buses to Corfu Town and Acharavi. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs. Peroulades Sidari Aghios Roda Stefanos Arillas Peroulades, near Sidari Surrounded by open countryside Peroulades is a quiet and relaxed resort with just a handful of local tavernas and a stunning stretch of sandy beach. The lively resort of Sidari is just 3km away. Transfer from airport: approx 2hrs. Aghios Stefanos This relaxing resort set against hills has a cluster of tavernas, a horseshoe shaped bay with crystal clear waters and gentle shelving sands that are ideal for children.
