Ideally situated, connecting southern Spain to Portugals Algarve, the Huelva region not only offers relaxing resorts, but also the chance to visit the capital of Andalucia, Seville. With watersports and a number of high quality golf courses, there will also be plenty to keep you occupied away from the beaches and cafés. top excursions Aracena Wonder Cavern A beautiful natural wonder. Discovered by a shepherd in 1886, it has 12 rooms and 6 lakes all created by nature and now illuminated. Also, see the Riotinto Mining Museum with 5000 years of history, the first museum of its kind in Spain. Christopher Columbus Pathway The pathway to the Indies began in the Rabida Monastery in 1492. See reproductions of the ships Columbus sailed to the Caribbean. Take a tour of Huelva, the capital of the province and known as a Columbus Site. Seville Visit one of the most beautiful cities in Europe which hosts the Royal Alcazar Palace, the oldest residence of the Spanish Crown. See the 15th Century Cathedral where renaissance and gothic styles are harmoniously combined. Gibraltar Special Drive through the Bulls Route (wild bulls breeding area), visiting the Rock of Gibraltar. See St Michael's cave and the cheeky Monkeys of the Alto Penon Nature Park. Islantilla A low key alternative to livelier Spanish coastal resorts is on offer in Islantilla. This small, modern and purpose built resort is well-known for its 27-hole golf course, and a wide golden sand beach. Its a perfect place to unwind, swim and try some watersports. You can enjoy views of fishing boats out at sea from the palm lined-promenade before setting out on an evening stroll. Most evening entertainment is hotel based. Transfer from Faro airport: approx 2hrs. Isla Canela Isla Canela is located close to the estuary of the Guadiana river and the historic Spanish border town of Ayamonte. Purpose built, Isla Canela offers a range of facilities and a wide 7km long strip of golden sand beach on the south shore. Restaurants and chiringuitos (shack restaurants) can be found along the beach, while an 18 hole golf course in the north is a popular attraction.
