GREECE & CYPRUS
CORFU This Greek Island serves up endless options for families. Take your pick from waterparks, sandy beaches, horse-riding, and even wild tortoise spotting up in the hills. CRETE You can't beat the knockout beaches on this Greek Island. It's also a great place for a fun-filled lesson in Greek mythology. This is the home of the mythical Minotaur, after all. KOS Kos knows how to impress when it comes to sand top marks go to Magic, Banana and Paradise beaches. Popular days out include horse-riding treks and daytrips over to Turkey. ZANTE This place is home to one of the world's most photographed beaches Smuggler's Cove. It's also got Greece's biggest waterpark. Throw in family-friendly resorts like Alykanas and you're sorted. HALKIDIKI This three-fingered peninsula spears the Aegean like Poseidon's trident. Families love the great variety of watersports on offer, not to mention the show-stealing beaches. RHODES Rhodes gets more days of sunshine than any other Greek Island. It's also home to one of the biggest waterparks in Europe, which packs in family-friendly chutes and slides. CYPRUS With its soft golden sands and aquarium-clear waters, Cyprus never fails to impress. And the island's beach-and-mountain combo means there's loads for families to get their teeth into.
TURKEY
It's fitting the country that spans two continents has two main pulls fabulous beaches, like the one at Olu Deniz, and `live' history lessons courtesy of sites like Ephesus.
BALEARIC ISLANDS
MAJORCA With shallows perfect for paddling, cathedrals and castles ripe for exploring, and a smart island capital made for touring, Majorca is a major player when it comes to family breaks. MENORCA This place is dubbed the family island of the Balearics. Reason being, it's a calmer alternative to its more extrovert neighbours. Plus it's got more beaches than Majorca and Ibiza combined. IBIZA Away from its super-clubs, Ibiza is actually a really good choice for families. Highlights include whitesand beaches and waterparks, not to mention sleepy little towns.
NORTH AFRICA
EGYPT Great sights, great diving, great beaches... Egypt has never looked so good. Sharm El Sheikh takes the trophy for diving, with its mix of reefs and wrecks. Its beaches are top-class, too. TUNISIA Tell the kids you're off in search of Stormtroopers and they'll be itching to help you pack. As well as providing the backdrop for Star Wars, Tunisia serves up desert sands and haggle-happy souks.
