This one is perfect if you're new to safari or you simply want to add a short safari to your beach holiday. Day 1 Shimba Hills You're magical journey to remember kicks off with a drive to Shimba Hills Lodge where you'll tuck into a tasty lunch ahead of your first game drive of the trip. Spot elephants trundling through the lush green rainforest. Look for giraffes nibbling at the tops of trees. And watch out for the graceful bounding of sable antelope. Later on, take our optional "Sundowner" guided walk and enjoy a cocktail as you watch the smouldering sun sink into the horizon. Dinner is served overlooking a waterhole so listen out for the tentative footsteps of timid wildlife. Overnight at Shimba or similar. (About 50km) Day 2 Tsavo West Today you'll drive to Ngulia Lodge where you'll refuel with a hearty lunch before setting off on a game drive through Tsavo, the world's largest protected wildlife area. You may visit the wilderness north of Tsavo West with its gigantic plains, lava flows and rocky hills. This is also the home of the famous Mzima Springs. Here, you can see crocodiles cutting through the water, chattering monkeys swinging through the trees and light-footed gazelles dancing in and out of grazing zebras. Elephants are the dominant animals in this park and you'll see them lolloping along in herds. If you're lucky, you'll also see the black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted roaming the plains. Overnight at Ngulia Lodge or similar. (About 315km).
Day 3 Tsavo East This morning you'll embark on a drive through Tsavo East, where flat bushland is dotted with hills and strangely shaped baobab trees that thrive beneath a hot sun. Most of the animals congregate among the acacia and raphia palms which line the riverbanks. Here, you're likely to see everything from elephants and buffalo to giraffes and zebras. Look out for majestic lions peering back at you from beneath the trees, or keep watch for the bobbing heads of comical ostriches as they bound right past you. Overnight stay at Voi Lodge or similar. (About 90km) Day 4 Mombasa Today we'll take you from Voi Lodge to Mombasa, where you'll be dropped off at your chosen beach hotel. (About 165km)
Please Note: Prices are based on two people sharing on a full board basis on safari. See your hotel description for board arrangements in Mombasa. This safari departs upon arrival at Mombasa airport so you will need to have your bag packed ready. Locked luggage can be stored at your coastal hotel. Single rooms are available upon request.
