Day 4
After breakfast, it's off to Mihintale, where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka. Here, you can take the grand stairway to the famous Buddha statue and jaw-dropping countryside views. It's good exercise, there are 1,840 of them! Then it's on for lunch at the Galway Miridiya Lodge in Anuradhapura. This ancient city was Sri Lanka's first capital, and has oodles of sights to see including the 2nd century BC Brazen Palace with its 1,600 stone columns, which are the ruins of a Monk's residence. It's then back to Chaya Village, Habarana for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7
You'll enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the Tea Factory Hotel, after which, we'll set off for Kitulgala, passing St Claire and Devon waterfalls along the way. Kitugala was the main location where the Oscar winning film 'Bridge on the River Kwai', was filmed. The valley above the town houses a prehistoric cave that was only recently discovered, and contains large middens of shells from a still unknown civilisation. On arrival, we'll head for the Plantation Hotel for lunch and it's then back to Browns Beach Hotel in Negombo for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5
After breakfast, we'll kick the day of with a visit to a spice garden in Matale. And as well as seeing how they're grown and processed, you'll also be treated to a cookery demo. No doubt all that'll have worked up an appetite, so it's onward to Kandy for lunch at the Hilltop Hotel. Then you'll visit Kandy itself, a World Heritage Site. We'll visit the town's buzzing bazaar, an arts and crafts centre and a gem museum. And to top it off, we'll stop at the Temple of the Tooth Relic, before seeing a cultural show. Dinner and overnight stay at Hilltop Hotel, Kandy.
Day 8
After a week on this Indian jewel - you'll be ready for some serious chill out time. After breakfast at Browns Beach Hotel, you'll leave for the airport and catch the afternoon flight to the Maldives, where you'll be transferred to the Huduranfushi Island Resort or Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort. It's the ultimate beach retreat, and it'll have you hankering for it long after you've shaken the sand from your suitcase.
Day 6
