Thomson Destinations Protaras Location 14km east of Ayia Napa Transfer time 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours from Larnaca Airport Less famous and frenetic than its noisy neighbour, Ayia Napa, Protaras is every bit as beautiful. With white sands, twinkling turquoise sea and more sizzling sunshine than you can shake a hat at, this is one paradise slice of Cyprus. The most popular beaches are Fig Tree Bay to the south of the centre and Pernera Beach to the north. But there's a string of sandy coves and rocky inlets in between. So you're not short on sun-trap spots to choose from. Scuba divers home-in on the rugged Cape Greco headland. Whereas snorkellers favour Fig Tree Bay. And all the beaches have plenty of watersports on offer too - from pedaloes and windsurfers to jet skis and parasailing, there's a million and one ways to get wet here. Shopping-wise, there are plenty of gift shops and mini-markets peppering Protaras, and a couple of supermarkets in nearby Paralimni. And this purpose built resort has no shortage of eateries and entertainment options. Tavernas, restaurants and fast food choices sprinkle the streets. Cyprus Ayia Napa Location 45km east of Larnaca Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes from Larnaca Airport Think of the Mediterranean's most famous beach-and-party resorts. Chances are Ibiza and Majorca are on the list- and Ayia Napa almost certainly makes the top three. This is one high-energy, high-heat, high-level entertainment town. You come here to have fun and Ayia Napa offers endless ways to achieve your goal. The silvery white sand, twinkling blue sea and the day-long sunshine are a good place to start. Immerse yourself in water sports. Get stuck into some beach games. Or sip ice-cold cocktails at the beach bar. And when the sun starts to dip, Ayia Napa comes to life. For a traditional take, away from the bright lights, it's all about the meze dinner in the old town. Then it's time to hit the tiles. The nightlife in Ayia Napa is the stuff of Clubbers' Guide legend. Happy Hour seems to run round the clock. Bars belt out banging tunes. And club DJs keep the sounds spinning til sun-up, But behind the party scene lies a captivating town with a quaintly cobbled old quarter. So it's safe to say that this baby's got it all. Nissi Beach Location 45km east of Larnaca Airport Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. Travel around and through the various regions of the island of Cyprus and you'll understand why ancient Greek legend says that it is the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite. But it's not until you reach the coast that you really fall for Cyprus. Nissi Beach in particular has something for everyone. It's even got a small desert island within swimming distance of the silvery white sands. At one end is Protaras - laid-back and lovely. And at the other is Ayia Napa, which can rightfully claim its place amongst the finest beach-and-party resorts in the world. Offering you the best of both worlds by being midway between two, Nissi is the stuff holiday dreams are made of. Cue a splash-tastic waterpark, deliciously traditional tavernas and bars by the bucket-load. But it's more easy going than neighbouring Napa. The sea is as still as a mill pond, the water sports less intrusive, the silvery beach simply unbeatable giving you the chance to relax away from the hurly burly.
