Thomson Destinations Sani Location About 100km from Thessaloniki Transfer time 1 hour Set on the site of an ancient city, modern Sani lies on the wildly beautiful coast of the Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki, about 100km from Thessaloniki airport. The Sani Beach Resort consists of the Hotel Sani Beach Club, the Porto Sani Village Suites, the Sani Asterias Suites and the Hotel Sani Beach. The complex also offers a special Dine Around' facility, allowing guests on a half board basis to enjoy half board lunch or dinner in certain restaurants (a number of these will incur a supplement which will vary depending on your chosen accommodation). The resort offers a wide range of facilities, all of which are available to guests. Halkidiki Hanioti/Kriopigi/Polichrono Location About 100km from Thessaloniki Transfer time 1 hour to 2 hours 30 minutes Hanioti is a bustling village on the Kassandra Peninsula, westernmost of three, pointing like Neptune's trident into the blue waters of the Aegean. It is about 100km from Greece's second city - Thessaloniki, and its villages still display a traditional Macedonian-style. If you like authenticity in your holiday then the typically Greek scenery and ambience found here will be just what you're looking for! Polichrono combines a traditional village, which gives the resort its name (very old'), with a popular seafront promenade with café bars and tavernas along its length. Further up the coast you'll find Kriopigi. Oozing old-world charm from every cove, it's got all the beachfront beauty of Polichrono but it's a bit more rural. It's got watersports, cafes and bars aplenty too. Neos Marmaras Location On Sithonia, about 120km from Thessaloniki Transfer time About 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours When it comes to mixing modern beach life with all the trappings of a traditional holiday, nobody does it quite as well as the Greeks. Offering all this and more besides, Neos Marmaras turns the cosmopolitan cheek on the usual holiday suspects. It's far from boisterous, but it's not stuck in the slow lane either. You see, it's got all the traditional charms like beautiful beaches, tavernas touting fresh-from-the-net fish and, of course, the friendliest of locals. Then on the flip side, it's as modern as they come. For starters, it's got the largest hotel resort in the Balkans in the form of Porto Carras; the only private marina in northern Greece; plus one of the biggest vineyards in Europe. You've got shops, bars and restaurants by the bucket-load. Not to mention the odd nightclub too. Kalithea/Afitos Location About 85km from Thessaloniki Transfer time 1 hour to 2 hours 30 minutes The shallow waters along the beach of pale, golden sand make Kalithea popular with families. There are stunning sea views across the Sithonia Peninsula, but a steep hill from the beach may be unsuitable for the less mobile. Some areas of beach have shingle and stone on entering the water. 100km away is Greece's second city - Thessaloniki, well worth a visit if only for its fascinating museums. Those who fall in love with Afitos can rest assured that it will never lose its wonderful Greek atmosphere by becoming overdeveloped, thanks to a building preservation order. The village's streets are mainly pedestrianised, so take a pleasant evening stroll before dinner. A stretch of white sand is a steep walk downhill from the village. Gerakina/Nea Moudania Location About 50km south of Thessaloniki/About 55km from Thessaloniki Transfer time 1 hour to 1 hour 50 minutes/About 45 minutes Gerakina is quite a small settlement but with plenty of tourist facilities. It manages to retain its Greek charm partly due to the size and partly due to the warmth of the Greek people. Nea Moudania existed as a humble fishing village until 1923 when it was resettled by Greeks from Asia Minor. Attracted by the white beaches, pine studded promontories and a vast olive plantation that is still producing today, the area soon burgeoned into a well-equipped resort with a commercial fishing harbour and a welcoming atmosphere.
