Location 13km from Coral Bay on the west coast Transfer time 25 minutes to 1 hour from Paphos Airport Never mind the best of both worlds, with Paphos you get the best of all worlds. The ancient capital of Cyprus and reputedly the birthplace of the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, this seaside dream blends old and new with an unforced charm that's intensely seductive. The resort is divided into two areas, Kato Paphos, the picturesque medieval harbour, and Ktima inland, with its bustling, hilly streets and authentic Cypriot atmosphere. Of course no trip here would make sense without visiting Paphos' treasure box of archeological sites. Ponder the superbly preserved mosaics in the Roman house of Dionysis. Walk the rows of the Odeion amphitheatre nearby. Saunter wide-eyed around a sarcophagus-filled museum. And don't miss the awe-inspiring Tombs of the Kings, with their age-old chambers hewn in the ground. As if all this isn't enough, Paphos has beaches too. When you're tired of sightseeing, hit one of the four pebble-and-sand stretches to the east, each with its own watersports.

Coral Bay
Location 13km northwest of Paphos Transfer time 30 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes from Paphos Airport When it comes to atmosphere, the short distance between Coral Bay and Paphos might as well be a million miles. Where Paphos combines old and new in style, this seaside holiday spot is all about natural charm. It's got one of the best beaches on the island for a start. Stretch out on a sunbed while the kids splash about in the shallow waters of the bay. Make a bit of a splash yourself and have a go at water-skiing. Or for a more sedate water-borne experience, the pedalo - just the thing to float around the calm waters and take in the view. Coral Bay is by no means as big and flashy as its neighbour. Even so, you won't be short on those holiday essentials, including banks, supermarkets and shops. As for after dark entertainment. It leans towards the relaxed rather than the riotous. Have a drink or two in one of the many bars. Then while away the rest of the evening over a slap-up meal. With time on your hands, it's the perfect opportunity to try a meze' feast. With up to 30 dishes to savour, we're not talking fast food here.
Limassol
Location 19km east of the Roman city of Curium Transfer time 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes from Paphos Airport If you like your holiday pleasures piled high, Limassol will definitely do it for you. Lively round the clock, it's a layer cake of great beaches, atmospheric sites, fascinating shopping and buzzing nightlife. Where to start? First stop are the alluring coarse-sand beaches that lace the coastline. Spread out on nearby Dassoudi beach. Switch scenery and head for the award-winning Armonia or Governor's beaches a little further away. But no holiday here is complete without some serious retail therapy. Dive into the crowded old town, awash with markets and craft workshops - emerging, breathless but happy and loaded with mementos. Close by, Limassol's 14th century castle offers the prospect of some interesting pottering. It's the site of Richard the Lionheart's wedding to Queen Berengaria in 1191 and there are some fantastic views to be seen from the battlements. Want to let your hair down? Limassol won't let you down. By night, Yermasoyia comes alive with a vast parade of bars, restaurants, discos and live music spots where you can party till late.
