If you live and breathe hiking, you should set your sights on the Samaria Gorge in Crete. Measuring 16 kilometres in length, it's the largest gorge in Europe. Put your best foot forward and head to the Ropa Valley in Corfu. This sweeping 2,500acre valley is home to more than two million olive trees and 36 different types of orchid.

Ibiza is home to one of the biggest recreational dive sites in Europe. Set off the east coast of Ibiza Town, the Don Pedro is a merchant ship that sunk in 2007. The Red Sea Riviera has been attracting divers for decades. In the famous Ras Mohamed National Park you can swim with turtles, spotted rays and barracudas.

Majorca's golf courses have a tinsel town following. The 18-hole Club de Golf Alcanada in Puerto Pollensa is a favourite with stars like Jack Nicholson and Michael Douglas. With 15 world-class courses, Portugal is a golfing Mecca. Try The Victoria in Vilamoura it was designed by golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, and cost $18 million to build.
