TOP 3
ThinGS TO See & DO
1. St mark's Square
This is where Venice's star sights line up. There's the Doge's Palace, the Campanile bell tower and St mark's Basilica, a Byzantine beauty whose interior could have quite feasibly gobbled up half the world's gold stock.

The battle between city and beach break is resolved at the top of italy's stylish boot. anyone who says you can't have it all hasn't been to the Venetian Riviera.
2. Grand Canal & Rialto Bridge
Venice clocks up 150 canals and 409 bridges two stand above the rest. The two mile `S' shaped Grand Canal with gondolas, vaporettos and water taxis glide against a backdrop of medieval palazzos. and the Rialto stone bridge, that's spanned the Grand Canal for over 400 years.
3. Venice's museums
For a city that resembles a giant work of art, its no surprise it packs in world-class galleries. The accademia showing art from 14th to the 18th century, with works by Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese. Or, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. for modern art. Dali and miro are shown to name a few.
Three resorts take care of the beach side of things. Firstly, there's Lido di Jesolo, with its soft sands, plenty of places to eat, and added extras like a waterpark. Trace your finger east on the map and you come to stylish Bibione. This one's a big hit with italians, combining a gigantic stretch of sand with a world-class spa. Lignano Sabbiadoro completes the line-up, and boasts an eight-kilometre beach. When you're ready to swap sand for city, head to Punta Sabbione, where regular ferries come to whisk you off to Venice. For first-timers it's an introduction like no other. We're talking noholds-barred beautiful with canals, bridges and grand palazzos all set to the sound of singing gondoliers. Factor in to the equation places like Verona and Lake Garda both of which are in easy reach and you've got the best of italy on your doorstep.
i
t's the stuff of fairytales a handsome sweep of sand meets the grand dame of cities and the pair get along famously. On the Venetian Riviera, not only do you get a goodlooking coastline but one of the finest cities on earth, too Venice. Granted, the pair live separately, just under an hour's boat ride from each other, but the relationship works.
