Paphos
Location 13km from Coral Bay on the west coast Transfer time 25 minutes to 1 hour from Paphos Airport Never mind the best of both worlds, with Paphos you get the best of all worlds. The ancient capital of Cyprus and reputedly the birthplace of Aphrodite, it blends old and new with a charm that's intensely seductive. The resort is divided into two areas, Kato Paphos, the picturesque medieval harbour, and Ktima inland, with its hilly streets and authentic Cypriot atmosphere. Dine on fresh fish and sip chilled wine. Watch yachts come and go from the bay. Or enjoy the array of music bars and clubs that make up Paphos' nightlife. Ready to stretch your shopping legs? The best place for souvenir hunting is Ktima. Of course no trip here would make sense without visiting Paphos' archeological sites. As if all this isn't enough, Paphos has beaches too four pebble-and-sand stretches to the east. For more serious lounging, take a bus to Coral Bay.

Limassol
Location 19km east of the Roman city of Curium Transfer time 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes from Paphos Airport Lively round the clock, Limassol is a layer cake of great beaches, atmospheric sites, fascinating shopping and buzzing nightlife. First stop are the alluring coarse-sand beaches. Spread out on Dassoudi beach. Or switch scenery and head for the award-winning Armonia or Governor's beaches a little further away. No holiday here is complete without some retail therapy. Dive into the crowded old town and emerge, breathless but happy, and loaded with mementos. Then amble to the old harbour where seafood restaurants jostle for your custom. Close by, Limassol's 14th century castle offers the prospect of some interesting pottering, with fantastic views from the battlements. Want to let your hair down? By night, Yermasoyia comes alive with a vast parade of bars, restaurants, discos and live music spots where you can party till late.
Nissi Beach
Location 45km east of Larnaca Airport Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. Nissi Beach has something for everyone. Even a small desert island within swimming distance of the silvery white sands. At one end is Protaras - laid-back and lovely. And at the other is Ayia Napa, which can rightfully claim its place amongst the finest beach-and-party resorts in the world. Offering you the best of both worlds by being midway between two, Nissi is the stuff holiday dreams are made of. Cue a splash-tastic waterpark, deliciously traditional tavernas and bars by the bucket-load. But it's more easy going than neighbouring Napa. The sea is as still as a mill pond, the water sports less intrusive, the silvery beach simply unbeatable - giving you the chance to relax away from the hurly burly. With sun-silvered sands, sparkling seas and neon-spangled nights to its name, Nissi Beach gives you something to smile about.
Ayia Napa
Location 45km east of Larnaca Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes from Larnaca Airport Think of the Med's most famous beach-and-party resorts. Chances are Ayia Napa makes the top three. You come here to have fun and Ayia Napa offers endless ways to achieve your goal. The white sand, blue sea and day-long sunshine are a good place to start. Immerse yourself in water sports. Get stuck into beach games. Or sip cocktails at the beach bar. And when the sun starts to dip, Ayia Napa comes to life. For a traditional take, it's all about the meze dinner in the old town. Then it's time to hit the tiles. The nightlife in Ayia Napa is the stuff of Clubbers' Guide legend. But if you think that's all there is to Ayia Napa, guess again. Behind the party scene lies a captivating town with a quaintly cobbled old quarter. A shaded main square. Even a medieval monastery which dates back to the 16th century. It's safe to say that this place really has it all.
Protaras
Location 14km east of Ayia Napa Transfer time 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours from Larnaca Airport Less famous and frenetic than its neighbour Ayia Napa, Protaras is every bit as beautiful, with white sands, turquoise sea and more sizzling sunshine than you can shake a hat at. It's most popular beaches are Fig Tree Bay to the south of the centre and Pernera Beach to the north. But there are sandy coves and rocky inlets in between too, and loads of watersports on offer, from pedaloes and windsurfers to jet skis and parasailing. Shopping-wise, there are plenty of gift shops and mini-markets in Protaras, and a couple of supermarkets in nearby Paralimni. And this purpose built resort has no shortage of eateries and entertainment options. The nightlife's not on Ayia Napa's scale but there are live music and karaoke bars, a handful of discos and a light and water' show. For a fun-packed beach holiday, Protaras is practically perfect.
