Things to see and do Barcelona This city continues to top the popularity charts. But why? Well, there's the bonkers architecture for starters. Gaudiinspired greats like the Hansel-and-Gretel-style houses in Parc Guell. And the Sagrada Familian which looks like a sandcastle being washed away by the sea. Then, of course, you've got the buzz of Las Ramblas. The quaint Gothic quarter. The sun-kissed beaches. The Neu Camp football stadium. The Picasso art gallery. The cable car over the port. The list goes on - No wonder Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe sang their hearts out about this place!

Tarragona Long before Barcelona, it was all about Tarragona. Well, in ancient times at any rate. Tarraco, as it was known back then, was the capital of Roman Spain and there are reminders all over the place. Down by the seafront you'll find an amphitheatre. Nearby stands the Praetorium, an old Roman tower. And just outside the city is a jaw-dropping aqueduct, the Pont del Diable, or Devil's Bridge. Aquopolis Plunge down the slides. Corkscrew through the chutes. And splash about in the pools. If it's watery fun you're after, this is the place to go. Plus you can see Flipper and his mates cartwheeling through the air at the water park's dolphin show.

PortAventura
Location 3.1 km north of Salou Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour For years now, PortAventura has been wowing the world with its mix of white knuckle rides, glitzy shows and eye-popping fireworks. It's got its own water park. And even hotels too. Ridewise, the Dragon Khan is the star attraction, but there are plenty of others in the mix. If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, watch one of dozens of professional shows - everything from dancing saloon girls to back-flipping Chinese acrobats. There's something for everyone including water. The Caribe Aquatic water park and the huge indoor Gran Carib water world are both jam-packed with fun. And Port Aventura's latest addition - the Beach Club - is a vast stretch of private beach set aside for guests staying at the Hotel PortAventura and the Hotel Caribe. Port Aventura's got everything you need to make you Spanish holiday go with a sizzle.
Salou
Location 11km south of Tarragona Transfer time 20 minutes to 45 minutes If you like a holiday with a relaxed feel by day and an up tempo air by night, with lots of British neighbours, you're sure to enjoy Salou. Situated 11 kilometres south of the elegant city of Tarragona, this well-established resort is compact and easy to get around, and fireworks light up the sky during the local fiestas in August. Families are particularly fond of Salou - the gently shelving beaches are great for children and there are watersports available in high summer. Add in the theme park PortAventura and the close proximity of places such as Barcelona to the mix, and you've got the perfect recipe for a fun-packed yet relaxing holiday.
Cambrils
Location 11.3 km west of Salou Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes Tucked in the far western corner of the Costa Dorada, 25 kilometres south of Tarragona, Cambrils is a pretty Catalan fishing town with a fabulous sandy beach. Away from the beach, the lanes are lined with tempting shops. Be sure to come in early September if you want to experience the loud and colourful local fiestas. Universal's PortAventura theme park is great fun for all ages. If you enjoy sightseeing, take a dya trip to Tarragona. This attractive and compact city overlooks the sea. Its roots date back to Roman times and its many ancient monuments are a joy to discover. Why not explore the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre, once the site of gladiatorial fights, or take in the remains of the Roman Circus, where chariot races were held?
