Things to see and do Valetta Valetta overflows with glorious churches and Baroque buildings. As well as great sights, the city's a joy for shoppers. The quaint narrow streets are filled with tiny shops selling antiques and jewellery. For something more up to date, head to Republic Street, where you'll find quality fashion and music. It's impossible to take in all that this World Heritage City has to offer on one visit. So pick some of the highlights and get cracking. Travel back in time with the fascinating museums. Explore the wonderful architecture. Relax in the elegant gardens. We guarantee you'll be back again and again.
Marsaxlokk This village is the most photographed village in Malta and quite rightly so. Not only is it packed with beautiful scenery, it's one of the oldest ports and filled with over 250 colourful fishing boats. They come in a diverse range of shapes and sizes, from the large modern skuna', to the small fregatina' rowing boats. Regardless of size, they're all painted in the traditional colours of yellow, blue and green. As this is a fishing village you can be sure of some truly wonderful seafood restaurants. As the fisherman drag in the catch of the day, it's only a matter of time before they're flipped onto the plates.

Mellieha Bay
Location 30km west of Valletta Transfer time 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes People come here for the peace and relaxation, for the watersports and for the option of a little sightseeing. Situated 30 kilometres west of Valletta, the village of Mellieha has a network of narrow lanes, a steep main street, and a huge 18th-century church with an ancient shrine. Mellieha Bay has one of Malta's few sandy beaches. There's quite a good variety of shops selling day-to-day goods and tourist souvenirs. Mellieha Bay's nightlife is a peaceful, quiet affair, usually involving a long dinner and an even longer drink. If your relaxing day has inspired you for something more in the evening, take a taxi to the livelier nightlife of Bugibba or St Julians, about 12 kilometres away.
Sliema
Location 5km from Valletta Transfer time 30 minutes to 1 hour If you like a little sightseeing in your holiday, combined with sports and good food, Sliema fits the bill. This busy - and still growing - town focuses on The Strand, a broad promenade with views of Valletta five kilometres away. Sliema's shops are among the best on the island - look for Maltese lace, fine silverware, pottery, and woollens. When night falls Sliema's bars and restaurants are relaxed and mellow in mood with a cosmopolitan feel.
St Julians
Location 8km from Valletta Transfer time 1 hour St Julians is all about fun and has become a popular resort with young couples and singles. The large rocky bathing beach at St Julian's Bay is popular during the day, and there is a number of watersports on offer. If you fancy eating out there are numerous restaurants to discover whether you want a whole evening's entertainment or a pre club meal to keep you going all night. Top DJs and promoters have been known to regularly use St Julians as a venue to showcase their talents. Added to this are the surrounding towns of Valleta and Sliema which offer something extra from shopping to sightseeing. The more adventurous can venture inland or around the impressive coastline to discover more about the island of Malta.
