As locations go, this one takes some beating. Pulled right up by the water's edge, you couldn't get anymore seafront than the Ses Estaques.
Tucked among umbrella pines and palm trees, this modern, whitewashed hotel sits on a rocky promontory right by the sea. The views are out of this world - the clear waters flash from aquamarine to turquoise to sapphire. Plus, you're only steps away from a honey-coloured cove. As for Santa Eulalia's main square, it's only a 10-minute walk away. Along with a top location, the hotel has got a great pool scene. Looking out towards the sea, the swimming pool is bordered by a yawning sun terrace that's peppered with parasols, tables and chairs. There's also an outdoor hot tub which sits on raised wooden decking. Most of the sunbeds, however, are down on the terraces that hem the seafront so you can make the most of those fabulous views. The Catalonia Ses Estaques also scores well in the food stakes. It's part of the Thomson Gold range, after all. Expect full English breakfasts in the morning and lavish buffets in the evenings. There's also an à la carte restaurant if you want to splash out. After dinner, attention turns to the lounge bar where you can expect live music, comedy and cabaret shows. As for the accommodation, rooms are decked out in floral prints accessorised with simple blue-washed wooden furniture. They all come with satellite TVs, minibars and air-conditioning. Not only that, you can upgrade to superior rooms where a host of special extras, like bathrobes and tea and coffee-making facilities await.
