Costa Adeje/Playa de las Americas
Location 30km south of Los Gigantes Transfer time 35 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes Costa Adeje is a well-maintained, newly built resort with easy access to all surrounding areas. It has a quieter and more reserved atmosphere than other resorts in Tenerife and is also very good for watersports. You can easily get into Playa de las Americas by bus when you want to sample the local nightlife. Playa de las Americas, 17.5km south of Reina Sofia airport, is a modern playground with an international atmosphere - perfect for families as well as young couples and groups of friends. The beaches are popular, watersports are brilliant and there's a waterpark (and the buses there are free!). There is an 18 hole golf course with views towards the resort centre and the sea, an ideal location made even more attractive for a round of golf as it is protected from the wind by a mountain range nearby.

Los Cristianos
Location 3km southeast of Playa de las Americas Transfer time 25 to 45 minutes Pretty as a picture, the sprawling resort of Los Cristianos is one of the island's most popular places. More low-key than its playful neighbour Playa de las Americas, you can take things easy here. While away your afternoon people-watching from a pavement café. Stroll around the old town and browse the upbeat bazaars. Or get busy in the town centre, where sleek shopping malls, al fresco restaurants and bright bars greet you. If you like a bit of banter with the locals, head to the Sunday market to barter for everything from watches and jewellery to clothes and music. But if your idea of holiday heaven is big on the beachlife, spend your time on the soft golden sands of the main beach. As far as food goes, you'll be spoilt for choice. Restaurants line the promenade and town centre, alongside friendly bars which offer a laid-back nightlife.
Playa Paraiso
Location 15km south of Los Gigantes Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour Modern and mellow, Playa Paraiso gives you that miles-from-the-madding-crowd feeling. But because it's just to the north of Playa de las Americas, you get the best of both worlds. Laidback and lovely or light-hearted and lively - the choice is yours. Travel between the two areas is made easy thanks to a reliable local bus service, or you can take a ten-minute taxi ride if you prefer. Playa Paraiso has a small selection of good bars and restaurants, so there's always a dining spot with your name on it. Plus, there are a few shops and banks on hand for holiday essentials. The resort's compact size is what makes it so appealing - life here stays firmly in the slow lane. But the main attraction is the lido right on the sea. You'll spend many a day here, stretched out without a care in the world. You see - the best things do come in small packages.
Puerto de Santiago/Los Gigantes
Location 30km north of Playa de las Americas Transfer time 40 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes The west coast of Tenerife is becoming increasingly popular with visitors and Puerto de Santiago is no exception. Once a quiet fishing village, this seaside sparkler's lost none of is traditional charm. Local fisherman unload their sea-salted catch onto the harbour. Restaurants spill tantalising aromas into the sun-warmed air. Looking for a little sand time? There's even a tiny black-sand bay for you to stretch out in. Los Gigantes is situated in a stunning location on the southwest of the island. The little beach of black volcanic sand is cosseted by cliffs and the clear waters are excellent for snorkelling. The marina is lined with bars and restaurants and the nightlife here is low-key - ideal for those seeking a more relaxing holiday.
