Costa del Sol Fuengirola Location 25km west of Malaga Transfer time About 1 hour Fuengirola boasts five miles of Blue Flag beaches, either side of the busy marina. It also has a a wide choice of restaurants - youll certainly find something to tickle your tastebuds. Fuengirola generally caters for those who want to enjoy the sun and watersports, rather than immersing themselves in local history and culture. But there are a few sights - the Moorish Castillo de Sohail, and the Fuengirola zoo for a family outing. Shopping-wise, Fuengirola will keep most bargain hunters busy, with a bustling street market every Tuesday, the biggest in this part of Spain. Fuengirolas nightlife is low key compared to Torremolinos, but there are plenty of lively bars. And if you fancy a flutter, the Hipodromo del Costa del Sol, near Mijas has late-night horse racing every Saturday in the summer. Fuengirolas a winner every time. Thomson Destinations Torremolinos/Benalmadena Location 12-17km west of Malaga Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour Boisterous, full of fun and noisy in high season, Torremolinos stretches for seven kilometres along the coast on either side of a rocky headland. Nothing is very far from the sandy beach, where watersports abound in mid-summer. Youll never be short of things to do here - every amenity is available including an aquapark, golf, tennis and ten-pin bowling! Lively Benalmadena basks in the sun on its excellent sand and shingle beach. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de Mijas mountains, it lies to the west of Malaga and its attractive waterfront promenade connects into neighbouring Torremolinos. ˛ Torremolinos Puerto Banus Location Approximately 6 kilometres west of Marbella Transfer time Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes Puerto Banus is right next to its glamorous big sister, Marbella. And its every bit as glitzy. A Spanish alternative to St Tropez, its got a marina packed with sleek yachts. Super-cars purr through the streets. And the shopping scenes all about names - from Louis Vuitton to Gucci, its all here. Little wonder its such a hit with the jet-set. Everyone from celeb royalty to reallife royals have been seen on their summer holidays here. On the flipside of the coin, theres a kilometre of golden sand, high street shops and some of Spains best golf courses. And a trace of authentic Spain can be found, too. Head away from the clubs and champagne bars of the marina to discover plenty of tapas bars and pavement cafés. Or, if your pockets are deep enough, check out some of the celebrity haunts like the Ivy Marbella and Nikki Beach. Torrox/Nerja Location Approx 50km east of Malaga Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes To say that Torrox is all about the beach would be an understatement. Here, in this modern resort, theres just one purpose in life - to snooze the hours away on the big, blinding beach. Running parallel to a palm-lined promenade, this three kilometre ribbon of Blue Flag-winning sand changes to smooth pebbles nearer the waters edge. When youve had enough of the beach, wander round the shops, department stores and boutiques. In nearby Nerja, a touch of true Andalucia awaits you. Unlike much of this tourist-focused coast, its retained every scrap of its Spanish charm. Its perched on cliffs and backed by the dusky Sierra Almijara mountains. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the old quarter. Stroll down Balcon de Europa, the promenade. And save some time for Playa de Burriana, Nerjas fun-loving beach. ˛ Torrox Highlights Gibraltar Rock Tour A visit to Gibraltar isnt the same without discovering the history of its famous rock. The Rock Tours guide and driver will give you an insight into Gibraltars remarkable past and present. In the unique World War II tunnels you can walk in the footsteps of Churchill, Sikorski and de Gaulle, and see where nearly 10,000 civilians and soldiers worked and lived deep inside the rock. And dont miss a photo opportunity with the Gibraltar apes, whose presence is said to guarantee continued British sovereignty! Granada - Alhambra Experience Discover one of Spains greatest splendours, often referred to as The Eighth Wonder of the World. The Alhambra Palace overlooks the city of Granada, with its winding cobbled streets and unique atmosphere, nestling at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Arguably the finest example of Arab architecture in the whole of Spain, the palace and its gardens were built as a re-creation of heaven on earth, with cool patios, fountains, scented gardens and intricate carvings still as clear as when it was first built. Youll return to the coast with your senses alive and refreshed. ˛ Gibraltar Rock Tour 240 Visit thomson.co.uk More hotels " More photos " 2,000 videos Customer reviews " Google Earth
