Tunisia Hammamet Location 100km from Monastir airport Transfer time 1 to 2 hours Hammamet, 65 kilometres southeast of Tunis, combines a taste of North Africa with the facilities of a well-established, cosmopolitan resort, complete with a vast white-sand beach and two golf courses. You can still immerse yourself in local culture by haggling in the Medinas souks, which offer a range of local wares, including jewellery and ceramics. Bartering is a way of life here, and is something that has to be experienced. For live entertainment or a disco, simply head for the hotels. Most of the bars in town close at midnight and are a great place to start the evenings entertainment, or to relax with a beer. Hammamet has some good restaurants and open-air terraces, where youll find a range of international cuisine, as well as some traditional Tunisian favourites. Thomson Destinations Port el Kantaoui Location 30km from Monastir airport Transfer time 45 minutes to 1 hour Port el Kantaoui, 7km north of Sousse, is Tunisias answer to the chic marinas found along the Spanish coast. Even the countryside has a deliciously Mediterranean feel to it. As well as drawing the yachting crowd, this purpose-built resort offers a wonderfully relaxing (and affordable) holiday for those who are more at home on dry land - say on an excellent sandy beach. Kantaouis two 18-hole golf courses are close by and theres tennis too. The restaurants, shops and cafés in the busy marina are a focal point here. Whilst the hotels offer a mix of discos and live entertainment, this is not a place for hectic nightlife. Skanes/Monastir Location 3km from Monastir airport Transfer time 25 to 30 minutes Skanes is a modern beach resort, close to Monastir, with several miles of soft, golden sands. Many hotels provide their own sections of the beach with sunbeds and parasols, and numerous watersports are available. Local sports include tennis and minigolf with a golf course just one kilometre away. And in the evening, couples and families alike can enjoy the occasional Tunisian folklore show or disco at a hotel. Monastir itself has a smaller local beach - the key attractions here are the fascinating little shops and traditional souks - dont forget haggling is a way of life in Tunisia! The picturesque town also has a wide variety of cafés, restaurants and fast food kiosks, so its great for a daytime meal or a night out, with every taste and budget catered for. Sousse Location 23km from Monastir airport Transfer time 35 to 50 minutes The strategically sited old port of Sousse, 130km south of Tunis, has seen a modern resort grow around its historic heart - the walled medina, an 8th-century fortified monastery, and the 9th-century Great Mosque. Its now a bustling, colourful town with a strong Muslim tradition, which means youll find just a few bars but plenty of cafés, shops and stalls! You can also enjoy Sousses long, fine beach of pale sand, which shelves gently into the sea. Explore the old medina and haggle in shops and markets for carpets, ceramics and leather goods. Come evening, there are some quality restaurants and simple cafés in Sousse, particularly those serving French-style cuisine. Various international dishes and local specialities are also on offer to satisfy your taste buds. Highlights Sahara Highlights A fantastic two-day Sahara adventure.
