Edmonton is the provincial capital of Alberta and Canada's most northern metropolis. We begin this morning with a brief orientation tour that will conclude at North America's largest shopping experience the West Edmonton Mall. With over 800 shops, 110 restaurants, a water park and ice rink, it is so much more than a shopping mall. However, for those who wish to venture away from the Mall the city has museums, galleries and parks galore, as well as Fort Edmonton Park, a reconstruction of the old Hudson's Bay Company fort and the surrounding town circa 1885.
Today we board our coach for an unforgettable sightseeing journey, beginning with the spectacular Maligne Canyon, where sheer limestone walls plunge to depths of over 50 metres. Our journey continues to Maligne Lake, the second largest glacier-fed lake in the world. We have time to relax here and take a boat cruise, passing glacier studded mountain peaks to the world famous Spirit Island. We return to Jasper later today where the remainder of the afternoon is free. This evening we have included dinner.

An early start this morning as we board the famous Rocky Mountaineer for the `Fraser Discovery' rail journey, linking the Rockies with the mountain resort of Whistler, British Columbia, via the historic gold-rush Cariboo region and the lush forests of northern British Columbia. Shortly after leaving Jasper, we pass the majestic Mount Robson one of the most photographed sights of the region at 12,972 feet and the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Passing through the Rocky Mountain Trench with the steep Rocky and Cariboo Mountains either side, and on to the rolling hills and vast forests of British Columbia's northern interior, you have a good chance to view some of the abundant wildlife found in this unspoiled wilderness region. Later in the afternoon, we pass through Prince George and follow the Fraser River into Quesnel, a small town forged by the region's 19th century gold rush. On arrival, we are transferred to our overnight accommodation, the Best Western Tower Inn or the Sandman Inn.
Please note that Rocky Mountaineer operate a fully non-smoking environment aboard their train, and clients travelling in Rocky Mountaineer's RedLeaf Service will be required to take an overnight bag for their stay in Quesnel, as suitcases are stowed for the duration of the journey to Whistler.
