DAY 10
SMITHERS · QUESNEL
PRINCE RUPERT SMITHERS
We leave Smithers and drive through the Bulkley Valley to Telkwa, where the Bulkley River flows right through the centre of town and the waterfront street is adorned with cottonwood trees. We continue south through Houston to Burns Lake and the heart of British Columbia's `Lake District'. From Burns Lake to Prince George, British Columbia's northern capital. Once a fort, Prince George is now home to a population of some 71,000 inhabitants. With the Cariboo Mountains looming majestically to the east, we drive to Quesnel and our overnight hotel, the Best Western Tower Inn.

DAY 11
QUESNEL · 100 MILE HOUSE
A staging post and way station to the goldfields of Barkerville and the Cariboo Mountains, Quesnel grew rapidly in the 1860's and, catering mainly to the miners and prospectors, was a lively and often wild community. Incredibly Barkerville has survived relatively intact from the gold rush era and today is fully restored with over 125 buildings and displays. From Barkerville we make our way back to the Cariboo Highway and continue our journey south to Williams Lake and 100 Mile House. We arrive in the early evening and transfer to our hotel, the Red Coach Inn.
