Inspired by the luminous landscapes of these sunny regions where joie de vivre is a way of life countless writers, poets, artists have called Provence and Burgundy home and it is easy to see why. ITINERARY - DAY 1 Arrive Lyon independently and embark the River Royale (we are happy to book flights, trains and transfers for you). DAY 2 From Châlon in the heart of Burgundy, our tour this morning visits Beaune to explore the famous Hospices de Beaune. Captains Welcome Dinner this evening. DAY 3 We start todays tour of Lyon with a drive to a good vantage point to see the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, Lyons hallmark church. We will stop on Croix-Rousse Hill for a dramatic view of the Beaujolais Mountains and Saône River. From the coach, we view Terreaux Square, the Fine Art Museum, and the Opera House. During the afternoon, you have free time. DAY 4 Nestled among the famous vineyards are the twin cities of Touron and Tain LHermitage. Indulge in some of the world famous chocolate and sample excellent Côte du Rhône wines. Top off your day with a visit to Tournon and its historic castle. DAY 5 Strategically overlooking the gorge of Donzere, the village of Viviers has retained its old world charm. Our guided tour will start in Old Town and stop by Rue Chèvrerie, Porte Riquot, Maison des Chevaliers, Rue du Chateau, and Maison Élémentaire du Commerçant. DAY 6 Your walking tour of Avignon includes Clocktower Square and Popes Palace Square for an inside visit of the Papal Palace. We will make our way up to Rocher des Doms, where Avignon was first settled. DAY 7 Our tour of Arles starts with a walk in the town, then on to the Roman Amphitheatre. Our next stop will be Town Hall Square, including City Hall and the St. Trophime Cathedral. Visit the museum Espace Van Gogh, and pass by Forum Square and Constantines Roman Baths. Captains Farewell Dinner this evening. DAY 8 Disembark in Arles for your journey home.
