The highlight of this short break is a full day guided visit to Leptis Magna - once a privileged city in the days of the Roman Empire and now considered to be the best preserved in the world. Experienced local guides will ensure you return home with a fascinating insight into one of today's newest and most exciting destinations.
ITINERARY - DAY 1 Depart London Heathrow on scheduled British Airways flight to Tripoli. " Direct scheduled flights On arrival, visit the Janzour Tomb Museum " Centrally located hotels with its stunning grave paintings en route to the " Tripoli city tour & Leptis Magna included Al-Andalus Hotel (or similar) for a four-night stay. The rest of the day is free to relax. " Expert local guides DAY 2 Morning city tour of Tripoli including the " Half board option at local restaurants Arch of Marcus Aurelius, Karamanli House, old with guide available British Consulate and the mosques and souks of the old town. Afternoon guided tour of Sabrata a Roman city with a stunning Colonnaded Theatre, Imperial Basilica and outstanding museum housing fine mosaic art. (B) DAY 3 A full days tour of Leptis Magna, arguably the most impressive and best preserved Roman city in the world. Monuments of interest include the Severan Arch, the Theatre and the Colonnaded Street. Also visit Villa Sileen, the coastal home of a Leptis Magna dignitary with its beautiful wall paintings and mosaics. (B) DAY 4 Full day free to relax. Optional excursion available (bookable prior to departure) to the Berber Heartlands of the Jabal Nafusa with a visit to the magnificent 12th century fortified granary of Qasr al-Haj (chosen as one of the Worlds 80 Greatest Treasures in a recent BBC series) including lunch. Continue to Gharyan and visit a troglodyte house and the towns roadside pottery shops. (B) DAY 5 Morning guided visit to the National Museum with its delightful collection of Libyan antiquities. Transfer to Tripoli Airport for return flight to Heathrow. (B)
