An escorted tour including Tirimbina Reserve & Tortuguero National Park
This arrangement is the perfect introduction to Costa Rica, and for a very reasonable tariff we have been able to construct a tour that includes guided visits to the major highlights San José, the stunning Arenal Volcano and the quite unique and special channels and rivers in the Tortuguero National Park. Here, aboard small river craft, one is able to discover the rainforest in all its natural glory, with sightings of monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, herons, turtles and snakes. For those travelling from July to September, there is the opportunity to observe the turtles as they make their nests on the beaches of Tortuguero a truly incredible experience.
ITINERARY - DAY 1 Depart London Heathrow Airport on Iberia Airlines to San José via " Escorted tour with excellent English Madrid. On arrival, transfer to the Hotel speaking guides Barceló Palma Real for a one-night stay. " 2 nights at Tortuguero National Park DAY 2 Morning sightseeing at Poás Volcano one of the largest craters in the world with a " Visit the Tirimbina Reserve & stunning diameter of 1.3 km. Take a walk through Arenal Volcano beautiful vegetation before returning to the " Option to extend on the beach in Quepos coach for onward journey, through the " Exceptional value for money mountains and coffee plantations, La Fortuna and check in at the Hotel Lomas del Volcán for a one-night stay. Afternoon tour to the Ecotermales to enjoy the hot springs and the lush vegetation with dinner taken here. (B,D) DAY 3 Today starts with a visit to the Arenal Volcano National Park where we enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Arenal and the active Volcano. Observe a lava field in our nature walk and observe toucans, coatis and other species before continuing to a beautiful butterfly garden, arriving at the La Quinta de Sarapiquí Lodge for a two-night stay. Whilst here you will see how sustainable tourism is practiced and even have the chance to plant a tree. (B) DAY 4 Morning visit to a local school (except in holidays) for an insight into the Costa Rican education system. In the afternoon, discover the tropical rainforest on a walk through the Tirimbina Reserve. Pass the impressive 250 metre long suspension bridge over Sarapiquí River to reach the entrance to the reserve. The walk ends at a small ranch, where we discover the history of cocoa and see a demonstration about how chocolate is produced. (B) DAY 5 Continue through banana plantations and remote countryside to a small port, where we take a boat ride through channels and rivers to the famous Tortuguero National Park. Arrive at Mawamba Lodge for a two-night stay. Afternoon at leisure a chance to enjoy the swimming pool or a walk on the beach. From July to September you can purchase a quite memorable optional evening tour to observe the sea turtles laying their eggs in the sand at the beach, approx $25 payable locally. (B,L,D) DAY 6 Shortly after sunrise, in the company of an expert, guide, we explore the Tortuguero National Park by boat, observing birds, crocodiles, sloth, bats, monkeys and sweet water turtles. The afternoon is reserved for a walk on the beach to the village of Tortuguero. Optional visit to a small turtle museum. Return to the lodge for dinner and chance to reflect on a truly memorable day. (B,L,D) DAY 7 Transfer by boat, continue to Guápiles for lunch. Continue through Braulio Carillo National Park with its lush vegetation to San José, where we stay at the Hotel Barceló Palma Real for our last night in Costa Rica. (B,L) DAY 8 Transfer to the airport for return flight to London Heathrow. (B) DAY 9 Arrive UK.
