The almost unfathomable vastness of the Australian continent can best be grasped in this magnificent tour, conceived around the carefree and happy on-board experience of an exciting and luxurious rail system that has been inspirationally revived and updated in recent years. We travel on four very different trains through a diversity of scenery unrivalled anywhere in the world, and because Australia is not only a land of incredible beauty, from the stark magic of its deserts to the sensual lushness of its rainforests, but also an island whose surrounding coastline, coral-rich seas and islands compose an unparalleled treasure, we include vivid marine explorations and a stay on Robinson-Crusoe-like Dunk Island. Embracing also the winelands of the Barossa Valley and the cities of Perth, Adelaide, Cairns, Brisbane and Sydney, as well as the peerless Red Centre of Alice Springs and Ayers Rock, this holiday is a marvellous adventure, not least for rail enthusiasts - an odyssey that will find a place in the soul to linger and re-emerge delightfully, like the technicolour memories of childhood.
25 DAYS FROM £4725
Classic Rail Tours
Perth · Fremantle · Pinnacles · Adelaide · Barossa Valley Alice Springs · Ayers Rock · Palm Cove · Cairns · Kuranda Great Barrier Reef · Dunk Island · Brisbane · Sydney
This holiday includes 5 breakfasts, 6 lunches and 6 evening meals
DAY 1 LONDON · PERTH
We begin with Titan's VIP Home Departure ServiceTM to London Heathrow Airport and your direct scheduled Qantas flight to Singapore and onward direct scheduled flight to Perth. During the flight you will enjoy complimentary bar service, meals and a number of films.
DAY 2
PERTH
An early afternoon arrival into Perth, Western Australia where our coach will transfer you to our hotel for the next three nights, the well appointed Crowne Plaza, after a brief orientation tour of this delightful city.
DAY 3
PERTH · FREMANTLE
Perth has a cosmopolitan charm and this morning we leave you free to make your own explorations of this vibrant yet relaxing city, with its large areas of parkland, fine beaches and distinctive lifestyle. This afternoon we take a short cruise south of the city to the world's best preserved sea port - Fremantle where you have the opportunity to discover the many attractions this lovely town has to offer. Evening return to our Perth hotel by coach.
DAY 4
PERTH · PINNACLES
This morning we travel first to the small seaport and rock lobster fishing village of Cervantes and then on to the coastal Nambung National Park and the Pinnacles Desert. Here in this flat sandy region punctured with mysterious limestone pillars, some towering to the height of 5 metres, there is ample time to explore this eerie landscape. Return late afternoon to the hotel.
DAYS 5-6
PERTH · INDIAN PACIFIC · ADELAIDE
A morning transfer to the train station where we join the Indian Pacific, a favourite of any rail enthusiast. The diesel-powered train traverses 2,700 kms from Western to Southern Australia crossing the expansive wheat belt to the prospecting town of Kalgoorlie before the train heads across the arid and desolate Nullarbor Plain. From Kalgoorlie to Cook you will experience the longest stretch of straight rail track in the world - approximately 478 kms. There is no better way of travelling to feel the magic of Australia than by rail, offering the possibility of a chance glimpse of some of the sparse wildlife and the opportunity of a short `walkabout' in this desolate region. In stark contrast to the plain we travel through fertile farmland before arriving in Adelaide. During the two night journey you can enjoy the comfort of your twin or single berthed cabin, a haven of tranquillity, dine in the stylish restaurant (all meals are included) or relax in the friendly ambience of the lounge car where stewards are there to assist with well deserved refreshment.
DAY 7
ADELAIDE · BAROSSA VALLEY
An early morning arrival in Adelaide where we begin our journey by coach through one of Australia's leading wine areas. We travel through rolling vineyards before arriving at Tanunda in the heartland of the Barossa Valley, where our tour not only encompasses the vineyards of Jacobs Creek for tasting but also the Chateau Yaldara Winery for tasting and lunch and a chance to capture some of the charm for which this area has become known. We return to Adelaide and our comfortable Holiday Inn Adelaide, our hotel for the next two nights.
DAY 8
ADELAIDE
158
Today is completely at leisure to explore the cosmopolitan city of Adelaide. Brimming with shops, museums, art galleries, parkland, botanical and zoological gardens to name but a few attractions, there are plenty of activities to while away the hours.
