Our first stop is Wenceslas Square named after the Good King in the 19th century carol, who was murdered by his brother for his Christian beliefs. We continue to the National Theatre and the Charles Bridge. We view Prague's most famous sights including the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Royal Palace. After a walk through the Golden Lane we pass the Smetana Theatre, Parliament Buildings and National Museum. Afternoon at leisure for further sightseeing and shopping.
DAY 3
PRAGUE
Situated on the banks of the River Vltava, Prague is renowned for its magnificent Baroque and Romanesque architecture. The wonderful views across the Vltava, spanned by the ancient Charles Bridge, contribute to making Prague one of Europe's most beautiful cities. The city has a fine cultural tradition going back centuries. Haydn, Beethoven, Liszt and Mozart all spent time in Prague and it was here that Figaro was first acclaimed and Don Giovanni received its first performance.
This morning we visit Schönbrunn Palace, a building of architectural splendour built between 1695 and 1700. It was commissioned by Emperor Leopold I for his son Josef I as a summer residence. Maria Theresa who resided there during the middle part of the 19th century modified the palace to its present form, and it was during this period that the park was landscaped by Ferdinand of Hohenberg. The palace records a number of notable events, for example Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France, spent her childhood there, and it is said Mozart astonished the court with his musical performance at the tender age of six. The Palace was occupied by Napoleon's son, the King of Rome, and it was at Schönbrunn that Karl I, the last of the Hapsburgs, signed the Act of Abdication on the 11th of November 1918. Decorated in the rococo style of the 18th century, the apartments are adorned with frescoes, crystal chandeliers, priceless tapestries, and furniture, making these apartments a luxurious and moving link with the past. In the courtyard stands the Wagenburg Museum in which numerous coaches and sleighs from the Imperial era are displayed. We return to the city centre, where the remainder of the day is free to further explore this fascinating and historic city.

After breakfast we board our coach for the journey to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. This much maligned city has many fine buildings with its baroque and rococo palaces which are as elegant as any in Vienna. It is thought that the rocky outcrops overlooking the city on which the castles now stand, were occupied as far back as prehistoric times. Bratislava's importance in European history should not be underestimated. However, in spite of its chequered past it is now reasserting its Slovakian culture after centuries of Hungarian and Austrian dominance. Late afternoon we arrive in the beautiful city
