Although most of the important historical sites are included in our Italian holidays, Rome has so much to offer the visitor that further time for exploration is frequently requested. The options are endless - wander through the old district with its narrow streets and picturesque courtyards, which today are occupied by artisans' workshops, trendy cafés, eating places and off-beat boutiques, or explore the old Jewish quarter with the bronze-roofed synagogue on Lungotevere Cenci which still remains the heart of the Jewish community, and Fontana delle Tartarughe (Turtle Fountain) which is close by. Shopping is a delight with the most expensive shops concentrated in the Spanish Steps area, where all the big names in Italian fashion are to be found. The hotels are located in the centre of Rome and only a short distance from the main attractions. All rooms have en suite facilities, direct dial telephone and television.

Milan is a lively, cosmopolitan metropolis and makes for an exciting city break. We have arranged this two night stay at the Hilton Hotel, or similar, which enjoys an ideal location. Whilst its fashion industry is renowned the world over, this elegant city offers much more than exclusive shopping. The magnificent Duomo, the world's 4th largest church, is quite rightly the focal point and most of the city's main attractions are centred around it. Art lovers will enjoy the many museums and galleries, and it is in the Cenacolo Vinciano that Leonardo's Last Supper is housed. Many old palazzi remain scattered over the city and invite exploration. After a busy day sightseeing and shopping, the visitor is spoilt for choices of excellent restaurants and cafés, where you may just wish to relax and watch the world go by.

Retreat for a few days away from Rome's hectic city life with a stay in the heart of the Lazio countryside at the impressive Il Grand Hotel Terme di Stigliano. Originally used by the Etruscans, due to the thermal benefits of the area, the 16th century building has been modernised but still retains much of its rustic charm and is surrounded by lush greenery. This spa hotel is the ideal place to relax after a busy tour and to experience a little more of what this fantastic region, a hub for culinary expertise, has to offer. Your stay includes a cookery course (translation in English) where you will be taught the secret of how to create some of the simple, mouthwatering dishes for which this nation is famous. During your stay there may be the opportunity to participate in an excursion to the Roman Castles area for a visit to one of Lazio's vineyards, including a vist to a wine cellar, a wine tasting and lunch.
