Day 1: Cape Town Your South Africa tour begins at the elegant Cape Grace hotel, where you will meet your Tauck representative, and check-in for a three-night stay. Enjoy the welcome reception and dinner with Table Mountain as a striking backdrop. (D) Overnight: Cape Grace (see page 37) Day 2: Cape Town Today, sightseeing highlights include the Castle of Good Hope completed in 1679 by the original Dutch colonial settlers and one of the oldest European structures in South Africa; and the magnificent St. George's Cathedral. Explore scenic beaches heading south, and then ride the funicular to the top of Cape Point for views of Cape of Good Hope, the southwesternmost point of the African continent. Discover the charms of Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, a vibrant entertainment district near your hotel. (BL) Day 3: Cape Town Ride a cable car to the top of Table Mountain and walk along trails with views of the city and rugged coastline. Then take an enjoyable boat ride over to Robben Island, a World Heritage Site that is an extraordinary nature reserve and former whaling station but probably best known for its old maximum security prison which housed Nelson Mandela for so many years. Day 4: Cape Town - Stellenbosch Visit the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where unique South African plant species are on display. After, head for the Winelands; visit the town of Stellenbosch, located in one of the oldest and most important wine-producing regions in South Africa. Founded in 1679, it features whitewashed Cape Dutch buildings along oak-lined streets. (BD) Overnight: A Stellenbosch wine estate Day 5: Stellenbosch - Kruger This morning, fly to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, arriving mid-afternoon for a two-night stay amidst the comforts of your luxury lodge at one of South Africa's finest private game reserves, situated along the Sabie River adjacent to Kruger National Park. An afternoon game drive is your introduction to the magic of the African bush, where a fiery sun unleashes a palette of colors that sweep across the vast expanses of the reserve. (BLD) Overnight: Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve Day 6: Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve Rise early for a morning game drive aboard a 4WD Land Rover. Skilled rangers guide the adventure, providing fascinating insights into the geography, wildlife and conservation efforts of the game reserve. Animal sightings may include leopards, lions, elephants, impalas and zebras. There are also over 350 bird species in the reserve. Back at the lodge, take a guided bush walk, or enjoy a swim in the pool. Late-day sun makes the landscape radiate on the afternoon game drive. (BLD) Day 7: Kruger - Johannesburg Opt for the dawn game drive for more animal sightings, and then fly to Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city. Enjoy two nights in the luxurious Westcliff Hotel, boasting stunning views over the city. (BD) Overnight: The Westcliff Hotel Day 8: Soweto An educational sightseeing tour of Soweto Township visits Freedom Square, the Hector Pietersen Memorial, the home of Winnie Mandela, and the home of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The evening is at your leisure to spend as you wish. (BL) Day 9: Johannesburg - Victoria Falls Fly to Victoria Falls, regarded as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Zambezi River plunges more than 300 feet into the Zambezi Gorge, often creating rainbows in the spray. It is nearly twice as wide and twice as high as Niagara Falls. Enjoy a relaxing two-night stay at the elegant Victoria Falls Hotel, established in 1904. In your free time, stroll the hotel's private pathway atop the gorge
for inspiring views of the Victoria Falls Bridge crossing into Zambia. (BD) Overnight: Victoria Falls Hotel Day 10: Victoria Falls Take a morning walking tour into Zambezi National Park, and learn about the African elephant from your guide. Then climb onto a special seat atop an enormous African elephant for a lumbering stroll through the bush for the ultimate wildlife experience. You may even still be talking about it at this evening's farewell reception and dinner! (BLD) Day 11: Victoria Falls - Johannesburg Enjoy a final morning at Victoria Falls before your flight to Johannesburg. Your tour ends at Johannesburg Airport where you will connect onto your onward or homebound flight. (B)
