7 Days Hoedspruit to Nelspruit (KMIA)
Day 1: Hoedspruit Tzaneen (125km) After collecting your Avis car at Hoedspruit Airport, head towards scenic Magoebaskloof and the emerald-green tea estates of Tzaneen for the next two nights. Standard & Deluxe: Coach House Day 2: Tzaneen A day to explore the beauty of the area. Visit the Debegeni Falls, a series of cascades tumbling 240ft into a deep pool, or the Modjadji Nature Reserve, named after the Rain Queen on whom H. Rider Haggard reputedly based his book `She'. (B) Day 3: Tzaneen Sabi Sand Game Reserve (320km/370km) Leaving early, journey south through indigenous forests via Gravelotte and Hoedspruit towards the `Panorama Route', including the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, the thirdlargest in the world, and the intriguing Bourke's Luck Potholes. Later, head to the private game reserves of either Lion Sands or Exeter, both situated in the Sabi Sand. For more information and inclusions on each of these lodges, see pages 68 & 70. Please ensure you reach your chosen lodge and have checked in well before the afternoon game drive, which generally begins around 4pm. (BD) Standard: River Lodge, Lion Sands Deluxe: Dulini Private Game Lodge, Exeter Day 4: Sabi Sand Game Reserve Enjoy an early morning game drive before returning to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Relax around the swimming pool or on one of the decks overlooking the bush, before an afternoon game drive. (BLD) Standard: River Lodge, Lion Sands Deluxe: Dulini Private Game Lodge, Exeter Day 5: Sabi Sand Game Reserve White River (80km/60km) A final early morning game drive before breakfast and your departure. Later, enjoy a leisurely drive to your next hotel, which is in the White River area and perfectly located to explore either the Kruger National Park or the scenic area of Mpumalanga. (B) Standard: Oliver's Lodge Deluxe: Cybele Forest Lodge & Spa Day 6: White River A full day to explore God's Window, Sabie, Lone Creek or Mac Mac Falls, or pan for gold in the historic village of Pilgrim's Rest. For the more energetic there are plenty of walking and biking trails. A scenic flight by helicopter is also a great way to view the area. Return to your chosen hotel and relax in the gardens before a sumptuous dinner. Day 7: White River Nelspruit (KMIA) (35km/40km) After breakfast, it is just a short drive via Nelspruit, noted for its roadside stalls selling curios and fresh produce, to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your onward travel arrangements. Your hire car is booked until tomorrow (7 days car hire), but must be returned no later than the time it was picked up on Day 1. (B)
Please note you are also able to pick up and/or return the car in Johannesburg or Pretoria. The distance from Johannesburg to Tzaneen is 415km, while White River is 376km. Johannesburg to Johannesburg
Departures: Daily Day 1: Johannesburg Kruger National Park Depart early from Johannesburg and travel east via Witbank and Middleburg over the plains of the Highveld to the world-famous Kruger National Park. Once at the hotel, you will have time to freshen up before setting out on an open safari vehicle for your first gameviewing in Kruger National Park. Return to the hotel in time for dinner, which is served under the stars in a traditional African boma. (D) Overnight: Protea Hotel Kruger Gate Day 2: Kruger National Park Search for the 'Big 5' on an early morning game drive. Enjoy breakfast en-route before returning to the hotel for lunch (not included) and a relax around the magnificent pool. In the early afternoon, depart on another game drive, accompanied by your knowledgeable guide. (BD)
Day 3: Kruger National Park Johannesburg Another early morning, as you depart on your final game drive before leaving the Park. Travel via Hazyview, Long Tom Pass and quaint Dullstroom before arriving back in Johannesburg early evening. It is recommended that clients do not book connecting flights on this evening. (B)
