Sanbona Wildlife Reserve
In the heart of the Little Karoo, and reached via the scenic Route 62, this unique and unspoilt game reserve offers discerning guests the chance to leave behind the rigours of the outside world, and discover a starkly beautiful corner of the Western Cape. Sanbona covers a vast area of land (malaria-free), and aims to protect its natural environment by returning it to its original state, when animals and ancient man lived here in harmony. The reserve is also committed to the re-introduction of its native animal species, such as elephant, rhino, giraffe and numerous kinds of antelope, plus free-roaming big cats including cheetah and the rare white lion. Morning and afternoon game drives roam the striking landscape, with qualified ranger guides to help explain the indigenous flora and fauna, rock formations and ancient rock art that combine to make Sanbona such a rewarding experience. This truly is an amazing place, and the peace and solitude offered at Sanbona is a world apart from the busier national park game reserves. Access Self-drive from Cape Town (3.5 hrs) via Montagu or Barrydale. Good gravel road leads from Route 62 to Khanni Lodge (14 kms) and Tilney Manor (33 kms).
