Since its establishment in 1989, Rovos Rail has earned an enviable reputation for its truly world-class travel experiences on journeys throughout Southern Africa. Luxury Accommodation Rovos Rail offers the most spacious train suites in the world, combining the opulence of pre-war travel with subtle modern innovations. The Pullman Suite (7sqm.) has a fold away bed and a private en-suite bathroom. Each of the tastefully-appointed, air-conditioned Deluxe (11sqm.) or Royal (16sqm.) Suites have a twin or double bed, a lounge area and a private en-suite bathroom with shower, hairdryer and shaver points. Elegant Ambience & Cuisine Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served (one sitting only) in the charming Victorian atmosphere of the Dining Car  meals, carefully prepared by an enthusiastic team of chefs, are complemented by excellent South African wines. The Observation Car, seating 32 passengers, occupies the rear end carriage. At the centre of the train there is a Lounge Car (non-smoking) seating 26 passengers, where you can sip cocktails before dinner. In maintaining the spirit of travel in days gone by, there are no radios or television sets onboard and a cellular phone is available for emergencies only. Locomotion Use of steam has become increasingly difficult over the past few years but a vintage steam locomotive will draw the trains on arrival or departure at Capital Park Station, Pretoria. Rovos Rail Journeys Pretoria to Cape Town and v.v A classic 48-hour, 1600km journey that follows an old pioneering trail, passing through the economic heartland of South Africa, the diamond rush town of Kimberley, the Karoo and the scenic Winelands.
