Garden Route Explorer Self-Drive
6 Days Cape Town to Port Elizabeth
Days 4 & 5: Oudtshoorn Knysna/Plettenberg Bay (135km)/(169km) Travel over Outeniqua Pass and descend into the colourful Garden Route. Choose between either Knysna or Plettenberg Bay as your base for the next two nights to explore the delights of this region. Beautiful beaches, forest walks, dramatic gorges, small towns and superb food characterise the area.(B) Standard: Knysna Log Inn, Knysna Superior: Laird's Lodge, Plettenberg Bay Day 6: Knysna/Plettenberg Bay Port Elizabeth (285km/248km) En route to Tsitsikamma, take a detour and drive through Nature's Valley which decends into dramatic gorges and down to a wild coastline, before proceeding onto Tsitsikamma National Park. Finally, continue on to Port Elizabeth where your tour ends. The car is booked until tomorrow (six days car hire) but must be returned no later than the time it was collected.(B)

Day 1: Cape Town Montagu (100km) Depart Cape Town and drive along the scenic Route 62' stopping to sample the fine wineries that line the route. Set on the edge of Klein Karoo, the scenery changes from colourful lush valleys to a semi desert with a mountainous arid landscape. The historic town of Montagu will seduce you with its picturesque colonial buildings. Standard: Mimosa Lodge (Classic Room) Superior: Mimosa Lodge (Garden Suite) Days 2 & 3: Montagu Oudtshoorn (230km) Set off early for Oudtshoorn and pass through the stunning scenery of the Klein Karoo: arid and majestic, there are many sightseeing options. Visit an ostrich farm, explore the famous Cango Caves or just relax and appreciate the old colonial farmsteads and country houses we have chosen for you to stay in for the next two nights. Here, indigenous forests have been preserved and are full of bird-life. Enjoy the nearby beaches or forest walks.(B) Standard: Far Hills Country Hotel (Standard Room) Superior: Far Hills Country Hotel (Deluxe Room) Day 6: George Hermanus (350km) Set off this morning for Hermanus, passing through Swellendam and on to the charming seaside resort of Hermanus to witness the awesome sight of Southern Right Whales cavorting close to the shore (Jun-Nov).(B) Standard: Auberge Burgundy Superior: Whales Tale Day 7: Hermanus Cape Town (140km) Your last day can be spent travelling along the scenic coast road to Gordon's Bay en route to Cape Town where your self-drive ends. The car is booked until tomorrow (seven days car hire) but must be returned no later than the time it was collected.(B)
