India Touring The Palace On Wheels 8 Days Delhi to Delhi from £1409, Luxury Rail Journey. Consisting of 16 carriages, with twin-bed en-suite cabins and 2 restaurants, the Palace on Wheels is a private train which takes an enchanting journey to the forts, palaces and national parks of the princely state of Rajasthan before culminating in a visit to the Taj Mahal. PAKISTAN Highlights Include * Visit the stunning Taj Mahal * Jaipur and the imposing Amber Fort * Join a tiger safari in Ranthambore * Jodhpur and the commanding Mahrangarh Fort Departures: Wednesdays Day 1: Delhi Your trip begins with a morning tour of New Delhi viewing colonial inspired buildings, India Gate and the Lotus Temple. Transfer to the railway station and board the Palace on Wheels to begin your journey into the countryside whilst dining in one of the lavish restaurant cars before retiring to your private compartment.(LD) Day 2: Jaipur An early morning arrival in the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur, allows for a full day of sightseeing. Explore inside the old city walls, visiting the famous Hawa Mahal otherwise known as the Palace of the Winds. A short drive outside of the city takes you to the stunning hilltop Amber Fort. Climb up to the top on elephant back gaining panoramic views of the surrounding area. This evening board the train for dinner and embark on your onward journey.(BLD) Day 3: Jaisalmer Travelling through the night across the Thar Desert ensures a morning arrival in Jaisalmer. Here you pass the havelis, beautifully latticed stone buildings in the twisting city lanes, before visiting the yellow sandstone fort which towers magnificently over this desert outpost. In the afternoon there is the opportunity for a camel ride on the sand dunes of Sam and the evening is spent enjoying dinner and a cultural show before boarding for the onward journey.(BLD) Day 4: Jodhpur Today arrive in Jodhpur the second largest city in Rajasthan, ringed by a high stone wall it is known for its imposing forts and palaces. Visit the Jaswant Thada and Meherangarh Fort. Whilst in Jodhpur there is the opportunity to shop for some of the exquisite handicrafts that are on offer before returning to the Palace on Wheels and departing for Ranthambore National Park.(BLD) Delhi Jaisalmer Jodhpur Chittorgarh Udaipur Jaipur Ranthambore NEPAL Agra & Taj Mahal INDIA Rail Jodhpur Day 5: Ranthambore - Chittorgarh An early arrival in Sawai Madhopur for a morning safari in Ranthambore National Park. The park acts as a wildlife sanctuary which is home to over 300 species of birds and is considered to be one of the best place in India to glimpse tigers in their natural environment. Returning to the train, enjoy lunch and take the opportunity to watch the colourful country pass by while you continue to Chittorgarh for arrival late afternoon offering time to explore this historic town. (BLD) Day 6: Udaipur This morning a short coach drive takes you to the beautiful lake city of Udaipur where time is spent visiting both the City Palace and the beautiful Lake Palace which appears to float on the waters of Lake Pichola. In the evening see the crystal gallery before returning to the train. Your journey now heads north, towards Agra, and the Taj Mahal.(BLD) Day 7: Agra An early arrival into Bharatpur allows for a visit to the Keoladeo National Park to listen to the drawn chorus. The Park is a sanctuary for a wealth of bird-life including, at some times of year, the highly endangered Siberian Crane. Next drive to Fatehpur Sikri the former capital of Mughal India and an UNESCO World Heritage site. Continuing to Agra your day tour ends with a visit to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal. The awe inspiring monument to love is inlaid with black marble and semi precious stones and will be sure to take your breath away. Return by coach to Bharatpur from where you will board and depart for Delhi. This evening dine for the last time in one of the opulent dining cars and spend your last night relaxing in the lounge.(BLD) Day 8: Delhi This morning arrive back into Delhi where your tour ends with a transfer to either your chosen hotel, airport or railway station for your onward journey.
