Cairns & Tropical North Queensland
Cairns is one of Australia's leading holiday destinations and the access point for the Great Barrier Reef and Australia's Tropical North. Known as the activity base of Australia, it also boasts a vibrant marina and fun lifestyle. Despite its popularity, Cairns maintains a tropical charm. The glorious beaches of North Queensland, including Kewarra Beach, Trinity Beach and Palm Cove, start just 20 minutes north of Cairns and follow the beautiful coastal road to Port Douglas. Once a fishing village, this is now an ideal base for exploration and famed for its Four Mile Beach. Beyond Port Douglas, you'll find the Daintree and Cape Tribulation and experience one of the world's few remaining undisturbed coastal rainforests.

· Be sure to pre-book your trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Cruising to the reef really is a must for anyone visiting Tropical North Queensland and even nonswimmers can marvel at the fascinating coral underwater world from the comfort of a safely secured pontoon. The really adventurous can learn to snorkel or scuba dive with the experts. · To really get the most of Cape Tribulation take an organised tour where an expert guide will be able to explain about the wildlife and the delicate ecosystem where one of the world's oldest rainforests meets the Great Barrier Reef. · Take a tip from the Aussies. This is one of their favourite holiday destinations, so be sure to explore. Treat yourself to a few days on a tropical island, explore the outback, Cooktown or Cape York, or take a journey along the Great Tropical Drive. · While away an afternoon in Cairns with a stroll along the Esplanade then cool off with a splash in the popular outdoor lagoon pool. If you've worked up an appetite, you're ideally placed to enjoy fresh seafood and a glass of wine on the terrace of one of the many water-view restaurants. · For the best beach, we recommend Port Douglas. Port Douglas is also the closest township to the reef and rainforest, and great holiday destination with plenty of shops and restaurants. · Choose Palm Cove, just 20 minutes drive from Cairns, for a spot of pampering and indulgence. Many of the hotels here have award-winning spas.
