This incredible journey introduces reef, rainforest and local culture. Departures: Daily Day 1: Cairns � Mungumby Lodge Depart Cairns and fly by light aircraft (approx 45 mins) over the Great Barrier Reef and her islands. Inland the scenery changes and you will see the thick canopy of the rainforest below. On arrival in Cooktown meet your guide and travel by 4WD to Mungumby Lodge for your 2 night stay. Overnight: Mungumby Lodge Day 2: Laura � The Outback & Aboriginal Rock Art After breakfast travel to the Palmer Goldfields. In contrast to the rainforest the landscape here is dry and barren with Eucalyptus trees and termite mounds in abundance. Continue your adventure on an unsealed road towards Laura. After lunch head to Split Rock to see some Aboriginal rock art. Head back to the lodge via Kings Plain Billabong where you will see a whole array of bird species. Make a final stop at Little Annan falls which are considered to be the day's highlight. (BL) Day 3: Cooktown � Cairns Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and the wonderful natural setting of Mungumby Lodge. You might like to take a walk and perhaps spot the elusive tree kangaroos which are extremely rare and make their home in this part of the world. After lunch (own expense) head to Cooktown for a guided tour. Here you will visit the Botanical Gardens for afternoon tea and to take in the magnificence of nature. From Grassy Hill you can take in the sweeping views of the northern part of the Great Barrier Reef and the surrounding countryside. Travel to Cooktown airport for your return flight to Cairns. (B) Mungumby Lodge A secluded wilderness retreat set of the northern edge of the Australian Tropical Rainforest National Park. It's the ideal place to relax and get close to nature.
