Self Drive Tours with Avis
There is no better way to explore Australia than by being the master of your own destiny on the open road. Here you will find general information on driving, and details of your selfdrive kits that are included in all our pre-planned self-drive tours. Just choose the area you wish to see, select your grade of accommodation, the car, and the duration of your trip. With a 24-hour contact number, which will give you peace of mind, you'll see that driving in Australia is easy and fun.
Driving Driving in Australia is easy as they drive on the left, the same as the UK. The main roads are well maintained, clearly sign-posted and fuel is more affordable. Some highways and bridges do have toll charges. On Australian motorways the maximum speed is 100/110 km per hour (60/68 mph), outside built-up areas and on dual carriageways it is 100 km and in built-up areas 60/50 km per hour (35/30 mph). There are regular service stations on the major roads, and distances are measured in kilometres. Tour Itineraries Our carefully planned itineraries ensure that you do not spend too much time driving, yet still see the real highlights. They do all the work for you, taking the stress out of having to plan your route each day. Armed with your Avis rental car, comprehensive driving instructions and pre-booked accommodation, driving becomes fun and easy, thus giving you more time to enjoy the sights. You may choose from 3-10 day durations such as The Pacific Coast from Sydney, or the Wonders of Southern Queensland from Brisbane. You can mix and match the short tours or choose from the longer itineraries such as The Grand Circle in Tasmania. Additionally, if you wish, you may extend your stay at any of the properties that we have included in our tours. Prices available on request. Accommodation Gradings In most of our pre-planned self-drive tours, we offer at least two grades of accommodation for you to choose from: standard, superior or boutique. These grades are based on facilities available and the location of the hotel. Should the hotel stated in the itinerary not be available at the time of booking, one of a similar standard/location will be offered as an alternative. Please note that in certain areas the superior option wil include higher quality accommodation than the standard option, but the accommodation will not necessarily be standard or superior in itself. This is primarily in more remote areas where there are not as many accommodation alternatives. Single Travellers & Small Groups The tours we feature have been based on two passengers sharing a car and a room. However, prices for single travellers and groups of three or more are available on request. Car Hire Our car hire partners, Avis, have over 200 depots in Australia, and have an excellent selection of vehicles. The cars included in our self-drive tours have been chosen to give you great comfort and plenty of room. Each car group is clearly stated in the tour price box. Your Self-Drive Kit Included in the kit are a back-pack, your personalised driving itinerary with day-by-day driving instructions, road and city maps, attraction information and tourist guides of the sites and regions you will be visiting along the way.
Prices Include
· Share twin accommodation in either standard, superior or boutique properties on a room-only basis, unless otherwise specified. For tours departing prior to 01Apr08 the itineraries may differ or other hotels may be used. Details on request. · Car hire for the duration of the tour, including unlimited mileage, unless advised, Motor Vehicle Insurance (LDW/CDW) subject to an excess, Vehicle Registration Fee and any applicable one way fees. · Self-drive kit, including maps and driving instructions.

· Air fares. · Airport charges vehicles hired from airport depots will incur a one-off `Airport Concession Recovery Fee' for more details please refer to car hire pages. · Sightseeing tours mentioned in the itineraries are purely suggestions/recommendations and are not included in the tour price, unless otherwise stated. · Insurance excesses, bond, petrol and any miscellaneous charges.
