Day 1: Auckland Enjoy a city tour this afternoon, and tonight get to know your fellow travellers and Tour Director at a special Welcome Dinner. (FD) Overnight: Auckland, Crowne Plaza Hotel. Day 2: Auckland - Rotorua, Hangi (Feast) Journey to Waitomo Caves for a guided tour of the limestone caverns and glow worm grotto. Continue to Rotorua. Tonight you are guests at a traditional Hangi (feast) and Maori cultural performance of song and dance. (BFD) Overnight: Rotorua, Royal Lakeside Novotel (two nights) Day 3: Te Puia Thermal Reserve Tour Te Puia Thermal Reserve, the Rainbow Springs and the Agrodome. The afternoon is at leisure. Perhaps journey onboard the Skyline Gondola and enjoy views overlooking the thermal wonderland of Rotorua (own expense). (BD) An optional country homestay is available. Details on request.
Day 4: Rotorua - Christchurch Enjoy free time in Rotorua before flying to Christchurch (airfare not included). On arrival there is time to explore this `garden city'. (BD) Overnight: Christchurch, Crowne Plaza Hotel Day 5: Southern Alps - Franz Josef Board the TranzAlpine Train, one of the top rail journeys in the world. Disembark and continue down the rugged West Coast to Franz Josef. (BD) Overnight: Franz Josef Glacier Hotel Day 6: Franz Josef - Queenstown Today travel over Haast Pass, along the picturesque shores of lakes Wanaka and Hawea, to the lakeside resort town of Queenstown. This evening, cruise aboard the vintage steamboat TSS Earnslaw to historic Walter Peak Station for dinner. (BFD) Overnight: Queenstown, Crowne Plaza Hotel (two nights) Day 7: Milford Sound Cruise. Absorb the majesty of Fiordland National Park on our journey to Milford Sound. On arrival, enjoy a cruise along the sound, passing beneath cliffs, tumbling
waterfalls and towering mountains. The optional return flight to Queenstown provides a truly unforgettable view (own expense). (BL) Day 8: Queenstown, Mt Cook This morning is at leisure before our afternoon journey to Mt Cook National Park. This World Heritage-listed area is home to Australasia's highest mountain, Mt Cook. (BD) Overnight: Mt Cook National Park, The Hermitage Day 9: Fly to Sydney, Australia Fly to Sydney, Australia. Travel via Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo and Burkes Pass, then through the plains of Canterbury to Christchurch. We board our international flight bound for Sydney, Australia (airfare not included). Tonight in Sydney perhaps stroll down to Circular Quay and see the Opera House or discover a local restaurant. 12 Day guests (EK12) join on arrival at hotel.
