What to See and Do
Darwin
Take an afternoon city tour to see the sights, be sure to visit East Point an area rich in World War II memorabilia. It's a leisurely city to explore with plenty of galleries, shops and museums. Including some excellent Aboriginal art collections, which if you are feeling flush could make an excellent reminder of your visit.
Kakadu
This is Australia's largest and probably most famous National Park. If you are visiting this part of the Northern Territory you must spend some time here, if time is short consider visiting as a day tour, however to really experience this awesome wilderness spend some time camping and getting close to nature.
Devils Marbles
Litchfield
The National Park is located just 100 kms south west from Darwin and is easily visited in a day. Once there you will find excellent roads, walking tracks and some truly sensational scenery. Don't miss Florence Falls and the rock pools at Wangi, just the place for a dip on a hot day. You will also see magnetic termite mounds, historical sites along with fascinating sandstone rock formations.
Uluru
A world icon in its own right, the mighty red rock rises from the desert and dominates the surrounding area. A visit here is an absolute essential on any visitor itinerary. Arrive in time for sunset and see the changing colours with a glass of champagne in hand as the sun goes down. Head out early in the morning to appreciate the tranquil beauty of the place in the morning light, a guided walk around the base will help you understand the importance of Uluru to the Anangu people.
Kings Canyon
This extraordinary sandstone chasm is not as well known amongst visitors but if time allows should definitely be included. The rim of the canyon has a strange `out of this world' beauty whilst many meters below is a wonderful oasis. An overnight stay is highly recommended to really appreciate the canyon and Watarrka National Park.
Alice Springs
Once a small trading post the town has become the doorway to the Outback. Made famous by Nevil Shute's book `A Town like Alice' the town today is an attractive thriving community and the starting point to many adventures. You could even start an epic rail journey on board the legendary Ghan.
