In North Adelaide's prestigious residential area close to Adelaide city centre, a delightful mix of 19th-century grand homes and gracious villas have been converted into bed and breakfast properties by the North Adelaide Heritage Group. Over 20 properties have been lovingly and faithfully restored and furnished with Australian antiques and memorabilia and now serve as elegant alternatives for your stay in Adelaide. Some of the properties include: Buxton Manor (map ref 8) is a glorious rambling mansion built in 1908 in the William Morris `Arts & Craft' theme of decorative red brick with steep sloping roof lines and beveled diamond-shaped windows, surrounded by half an acre of manicured gardens with sweeping lawns. Stunningly restored with four beautiful suites featuring open fires and polished wooden floors. The Fire Station Inn (map ref 9) was the city's first fire station and is now home to three luxury suites with ensuite marble spa bathrooms and complete with fireman's pole and original 1940s fire engines. Bishop's Gardens was home and gardens to the fourth Bishop of Adelaide and now boasts luxurious accommodation for two to five people. Nine Historic Cottages throughout the tree-lined streets offer secluded sanctuaries, all within walking distance of Adelaide's best cafés, restaurants and shops.
