Adelaide is also home to the National Wine Museum, showcasing Australia's successful history of wine making. Kangaroo Island Kangaroo Island is a real must for wildlife enthusiasts, accessible via a short flight from Adelaide and an absolutely essential part of a visit to the state. Walk on unspoilt beaches and get close to the wildlife. An organised tour will really help you get the most of a visit and with the help of an expert guide you can learn about the varied wildlife. The Barossa Valley Discover the wonderful Barossa Valley, undisputed capital of Australia's wine production. South Australia prides itself on its reputation as the premier wine-growing region of Australia, where more than half of Australia's best wines are grown. See pretty scenery and charming towns and villages. Spend some time visiting the wineries and learn a little about the art of making a good drop. To really enjoy this region an overnight stay is recommended. The Outback & Murray River The Flinders Ranges and Outback are vast and spectacular. The area begins about 250km from Adelaide and covers more than 80 per cent of the state. It is a region of great diversity: from the pink parallel dunes of Simpson Desert to cruises in the Coorong National Park and along the Murray River. In the north is the mining frontier towns of Coober Pedy, Andamooka and Mintabie. These three opal fields account for more than 80 per cent of the world's production.
